Charlton are looking for replacement opponents for Wednesday, July 30th following the sudden cancellation of a planned friendly at Swindon Town
Iain Liddle reports
Charlton are looking for replacement opponents for Wednesday, July 30th following the sudden cancellation of a planned friendly at Swindon Town.
The two clubs had agreed on the pre-season encounter shortly before it was officially confirmed on www.cafc.co.uk on Monday, June 23rd.
However, around lunchtime on Monday, July 7th the club received a notice from Swindon that they would no longer be able to fulfil the fixture.
Later that afternoon the Robins announced a replacement friendly at home to Leeds United on Tuesday, July 29th.
Charlton would like to apologise to any supporters who had already made plans to travel to the County Ground for the game and have been inconvenienced by the late cancellation.
The club will announce at the earliest opportunity on www.cafc.co.uk if and when a replacement opponent is found.

So they would rather face Leeds than us0 -
Much bigger away following and more gate receipts @oohaahmortimer will love this :-03
-
If that's really the case then they've clearly forgotten us donating our gate receipts to help keep them afloat (and Deano extending our generosity a little too far by donating the points!).2
-
Cheeky gits! They're rumours that we may play a team in Glasgow...0
-
nice !!0

i think from the wording of that release the Club is making it very clear what they think....4

That's a good point but I'm sure if we mentioned that to them they'd argue that we also gave them mcoxoPaddy7 said:If that's really the case then they've clearly forgotten us donating our gate receipts to help keep them afloat (and Deano extending our generosity a little too far by donating the points!).

A good time now to get that 2 grand back off Carson after this.0

Someone from Swindon's local paper said that they never confirmed the fixture. Our statements wording indicates otherwise
Swindon Town say they "never confirmed as a friendly" the Charlton game, which is true enough. #cafc still have it listed on their website.

Confirmed or not, surely the business like thing to do would be to check with us before making alternative arrangements.1
-
We still need opponents for Saturday 26th July as well as Wednesday 23rd July.0

Wasn't the gate receipts . . . I believe it was the half-time raffle aka Addicks Instant Jackpot.Paddy7 said:If that's really the case then they've clearly forgotten us donating our gate receipts to help keep them afloat (and Deano extending our generosity a little too far by donating the points!).

Think we are playing Ebbsfleet on 23rd unless it's the reserves.AddickFC81 said:We still need opponents for Saturday 26th July as well as Wednesday 23rd July.

If it was never confirmed, why did they feel the need to cancel it, surely that proves it was confirmed8 -

We're booked into a hotel in Salisbury for Weds & Thurs night to take in the Swindon game and maybe the Dorset coast.
They can stick their Magic Roundabout where it hurts now !1 -

Cheers for clearing that up Airman; I think my version makes us sound more generous though. Perhaps if we'd made it the entire match takings they wouldn't have pulled the plug!1
