  • Of course it's sour grapes, wouldn't you have if you put time and effort into someone who didn't even bother to answer the phone to the club?

The way he left is nothing short of disrespectful, but you'll still find people crawling up his arse and using crap arguments saying was it disrespectful when we released Jordan fucking cook.

    Good grief.

time, effort, and in richard murray's case his own money.

Do you know that for a fact?...just interested to know why people are assuming he blew us off without considering our offers.
  • What would be better decent fee say 1.5m or 15% sell on? I reckon we have taken the fee

To be honest whatever was likely to be agreed either at tribunal or via compensation, would not be enough.

I'd had Poyet described to me by someone who knew him as 'the definition of a big-time charlie', and that was last year before he had even made his first team debut! So unfortunatley I always feared he would jump ship at the first opportunity of some extra £££.

Let's move on & hope the likes of Cousins, Harriot, Gomez etc are a different breed (and by all accounts they are)
  • It amazes me that anyone would think anything different Greenie - you are spot on!

Young lads coming through our system get a private education worth (very conservatively) about £40k per year. If they do not have 'it' to turn it into a professional football career, they have still had this education for nothing. Surely those that are made millionaires out of it have just the smallest of responsibilities to help give other young people the same opportunity.
  • all we ask is a bit of loyalty like shelvey did
  • What would be better decent fee say 1.5m or 15% sell on? I reckon we have taken the fee

take a million off of that and that's probably a lot closer to what we've got.
  • Why yet again is it an undisclosed fee? Just tell us how much we got
  • Of course it's sour grapes, wouldn't you have if you put time and effort into someone who didn't even bother to answer the phone to the club?

Yeah but that doesn't matter cos we released mark gower

You don't often get players do a shelvey and I didn't expect him too, what I am annoyed about is the way he conducted himself, the silly games on twitter 'I'll tell the truth when I have signed to a new club' bullshit. Let alone other things.

Will 100% be giving him grief when he next plays against us

You're just guessing r.e. the phone call, so I'm not going to answer that bit. Yes, maybe I wouldn't be happy, but not release a public statement hitting out at him. It's modern football, yes we can expect loyalty but the game doesn't have much of that.

It's a statement to say we got a bit of money, not enough, and then saying he should stay to prove himself at the club.. he's done that as we all saw, now he wants to prove himself on a bigger stage. No loyalty, yep, painful to see but as everyone famously says on here. Move on....
  • wonder how much?
"West Ham have completed the signing of midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton on a four-year deal.
The 19-year-old, son of Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, has moved to Upton Park after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed compensation fee."
  • Of course it's sour grapes, wouldn't you have if you put time and effort into someone who has acted in the amber DP has towards the club.

So you can tell us, without any shadow of a doubt, that in the same position you'd have turned down more money, Premier League football, Premier League coaching/facilities/team-mates and the infinite lifestyle perks that come with it, to sign on in the Championship for a bottom-half club with an untried manager you don't know?

I also believe Poyet probably should have signed a pro deal like Shelvey did before going. But I know full-well that when a person actually has the reality of being faced with a decision like this, it's not really hard to understand why they move on. Human nature. To dig him out so sanctimoniously and promising to 'give him a grief' just looks a bit ridiculous.
i've said it before and i'll say it again. Poyet would not have been badly off by any stretch of the imagination if he would've signed a new contract with us.

Arguably we wouldn't have stayed up without Diego's performances at the back end of last season. The lad did what he feels is right for his career - whether we agree or disagree, give him a break. Some of the abuse he's got on twitter etc as a 19 year old kid from blokes twice his age is pretty embarrassing.

All the best mate and cheers for keeping us out of League 1!

Totally agree - he's done his job, we would be in League One without him (my opinion and almost every other person who voted him POTY's too). Belittling him and wanting to give him 'grief' is as petty as it gets. He's moved forward with his career, he deserves a more lucrative contract and better lifestyle, with better players to move him even further forward in his career. RM is having sly digs at him and its unneeded, 'move on'.

You obviously didn't read my second post, I didn't expect him to sign a new contract, but it's the way he's handled the situation which I don't like.

    its undisclosed because either:

    a) its such a paltry amount (ie, under £500k, no sell on fee etc) that if the fans really knew they would go ape & would be smashing up seats at the first home game.

    OR

    b) it is such a fantastic amount (ie, an initial £2m with £100k add ons for every 10 games he plays & a 50% sell on) that if other clubs know we have that amount of dosh to spend then they will want more for their players when we come knocking.

    you choose..........
  • Difference is most kids need to think of the family, poyet has his familys money behind him so that's not even an excuse
  • I think I'm right in saying undisclosed fees are undisclosed because one of the 2 teams request that it's undisclosed.

So if Charlton want it to be undisclosed it's because either it's a pittance or as mentioned above, it's a decent sum and we don't want clubs knowing we have it.

If West ham have asked for it to be undisclosed... well I don't know. Even if it was 3M, which it won't be - I can't see why West Ham would want it kept quiet. Whatever the sum, it will be tiny in relation to premier league money so I can only see that it's Charlton that have requested an undisclosed fee
  • From twitter (don't know how reliable):

    @FLRumours
West Ham United have snapped up Charlton Athletic star Diego Poyet for a 7 figure sum. #whufc #westham #cafc #charlton #addicks

    sadly and probably so...sigh....
  • "It's massive to come to a Premier League club. It's what I wanted to do - I wanted a new challenge and soon as I heard there was a chance of stepping up I had to take it.

"I played quite a few games last season with Charlton and I just want to push on now. Like any young player, the first thing you want to do is get into the first team. I need to show the staff, players and the gaffer what I'm capable of doing and maybe pushing my way in.
  • Now to sit and wait for many posts speculating on fees, I reckon a range of between £500k and £6m

So between £1,000,000 and £9,999,999. Any advance on this?
  • Atleast he thanked the fans... oh wait. Pretty much stuck two fingers up to us fans and the club with this whole scenario.
