Minutes celebration

despite the reservations of Frankie Valley, the minutes celebration went off really well, those involved in setting it up including Ben / Henry must be very proud, mention must go to Blackpool, who I am sure would not have been aware that some of their own were in it but joined in - well done to all and sundry.

I have posted here before that I far prefer a minutes silence to a minutes applause.
BUT I have to say that today I thought worked well and has been the only time I felt emotional during the applause particularly seeing all those names on the screen.
So I have been converted and would like also to say thank you to those who put thought and effort into making it happen.0 -
Excellent and moving. Just right in my mind. Well done Henry and whoever else for organising.0
-
Good to see Graham Hobbins name included in the list of names on the big screen. Excellent tribute.0
-
Just wondering what form it took? Was it just names scrolling or did they flash up photos of those departed.
If it's the latter, it might at least be something to look forward to when your time finally comes!0 -
I was shocked to see a cousin on that list. I didn't even know that he'd died

If I was being picky then I say it was a pity that the ref blew before all the names had finished scrolling but otherwise I'm glad to hear that people felt it went well.
I'm sure some others will disagree and feel it innappropriate and I respect that view. What I think is unacceptable is what was said on Frankie Valley ie "Who cares, I don't know any of these people" What you've never heard of Bill Robinson or Charlie Hall, Rodney Stone, Eric Lancelotte let alone the many fans. I've been to many minutes silences at away games when I've not known the person being remembered but I still felt happy to add my respects.
Shame on you Frankie and your accolates.0 -
Henry, Ref was told that it would last a minute, but he blew up after 50 seconds, needless to say we were not amused.0

Thanks BDL. I knew the scrolling had been timed to last a minutes so was surprised. Well done to Dan Bream for doing it.
What did people think of what came up on the screen after the names or was it missed?0 -

Remind me what it was....0 -
It was something along the lines of "CAFC - A family more than a club" - thought it was a nice touch to finish like that.0

It was a great idea by the club well done all invloved i hope they keep it up.0
-
I didn't think that this would work and thought that it would be cringe worthy - I was proved wrong.0

When my dad died a year or two ago, the club didn't do this sort of thing. I was sitting in the seat that was his season ticket and it made me think of him and my relatives who are no longer with us as well as naturally those people who's names were scrolling through.
Frankies comments were just silly and designed to be contraversial. I think he just got his "take" on it wrong. But who cares.
It was a great idea and I hope it becomes a regular annual event. Lets just hope next time we get a ref who can count up to 60...:-)0 -

Charlton Athletic - More than just a football club[cite]Posted By: 1905[/cite]I didn't think that this would work and thought that it would be cringe worthy - I was proved wrong.
I'm pleased to hear that. I worried that it would be just that so that you think it didn't means a lot to me.0 -
[quote][cite]Posted By: F-Blocker[/cite]It was something along the lines of "CAFC - A family more than a club" - thought it was a nice touch to finish like that.[/quote] I was not that keen and did feel it was a bit cringy, but that's just my take and if it made others happy ...0

It felt a bit like we'd nicked that line from Barcelona ("més que un club" - "more than a club"), to be honest.
Thought the minute's applause worked really, really well, though - and arguably lifted the crowd, and so lifted the team.
Not sure how much the softer support was aware of it, though, as everyone around us at the foot of J block had parked their arses on their seats and had to get up again...0 -
Thought the whole tribute was very well done- noticed the ref blew a tad early- but i also the thought the applause was waining!
More than anything- have to agree with the "Charlton Athletic - More than just a football club" rang very true!
In a tough time for "us" re-kindled the "Proud to be an Addick" in me- Congrats to all involved!0 -

Seconded, as someone who watched Welling United a heck of a lot, I thought that was a great gesture.
I felt emotional seeing Adam's (The Boat) name on the list and Tom Smith - never met or knew either of them, but after reading the comments on here about them from people who knew them (particularly Tom's son who sponsored the match on Saturday) it touched me - as has been said before, I'm proud to be an Addick.0 -
thought it was a very respectable gesture and a nice idea/tradition to continue.. well done to all involved0
-
I was actually looking forward to it and I wasn't disappointed. A fantastic idea, very well done (aside from Mr Singh blowing up early) and a privelige to be involved, it should definitely be a permanent fixture in the calendar.
Thanks too to the club for putting my mate's dad's name in there even though he died just over a year ago.0
