Sunderland 2005, Darren Bent's first game?

    Must be that
  • How many have there been Away from home though?

Unless weve played 6 times since then fair enough but if only a handful then it seems like one of those daft stats the commentators come out with

(i.e. Charlton are in trouble, they've not won the Championship since 2000... Yes weve only been in it 5 out of the 9 years!!)

That would be my guess too.

And two wonderful goals he scored then, too - knew we had a proper striker on our hands. Let's hope one of the new boys can do the same on Sat...

Off the top of my head I can only think of West Ham away in 2006 and Bournemouth away last season since 2005. I think most of the other matches have been at home. Scunthorpe, Swansea, Wycombe and Bournemouth in no particular order anyway. Just a couple of years missing.

Birmingham away too, was a 1-1 draw.

    Cardiff 1983

1984/85...I was there. B Mob gave their own interpretation of the Hawaii Five O boat crew whilst seated on the terrace, Hales got a hat-trick and we went on to have a distinctly moderate season.

We drove that day and only got as far as Chippenham because of a major oil issue with the car. While a couple of us were getting the car sorted with new hoses and various other fittings the rest of us went in the pub and got blotto and when we heard it was 0.3 to us and Killer had a hat trick we were jumping about and dancing in the car park and the street much to the locals amusement! We never got home until about 8am on Sunday morning and the car was promptly scrapped on the Monday!

Remember going there when we won 1.0 and Killer scored then as well I think. Am sure it was a game near Christmas. We were crap away from home in those days, think we only won 2 aways that year.

We won at Leicester on the first day in 1982-3 , a real stormer, we thought this year we really mean business....played Wolves the following Tuesday and lost 5-0, followed by a 3-0 whacking at The Valley by er, Sheffield Wednesday. Ken Craggs won the award for shortest honeymoon period in CAFC history.

Like someone pointed out above, we do like a red card on the opening day of the season.

  • From the BBC Match Preview (So could be complete bullshit)

Charlton have lost only one of their last seven games on the opening day, winning four and drawing two. Their only defeat since 2006 was 2-1 at Bournemouth in the Championship last season.

    Sounds likely thinking of it.
  • We have played a awful lot of promoted teams over last 8 years. Swansea, Bournemouth 3 times, Scunthorpe....
