    Were they third division then?

EDIT no, second division. I remember them sliding down the division from about 1970.

    1972 that was.

Excellent, OP. Peter Grummitt - they don't make 'em with names like that any more.

Why have Wednesday stopped plaing in those shirts ?

They've probably fallen apart seeing as they're 42 years old

We had them briefly in the 1960s and early 70s, and for a season in 1996 (I think)

Always has to be stripes though.

Great pic but it looks a bit like the crowd are standing on a pyramid! Could have been Egypt v Syria :-)

Old kop before it was roofed and extended in 86' it was excellent.

  • Santos won that game 2-0, it was originally due to be played at 7.30 but due the a national coal strike, energy had to be saved so the floodlights couldn't be used, so it was switched to a 2.30 kick off on a Wednesday afternoon. Many schools were deserted that day with kids and even teachers not turning in due to Pele being at Hillsborough.

    That's me done guys lol

The santos names look like a line up of any of the Prem teams in 2014

Or most days. I wonder if the gap between Div 1 players and Div 2 players was as great in those days?

I very much doubt it, even right up to the late 80s you had second division players playing for England.
