Yoni Buyens interview

Comments

  • Did you not ask whether he wants to sign permanently?
  • Interesting. The evidence is beginning to suggest that Bob Peeters is a class act. If so, well done, once again, to Roland Duchatelet for having both the judgement and the courage to make the right decision when there was an easier and more populist alternative. Looks as if we are in good hands all round.

    Good interview
  • I found the comment.... "We were happy to let Watford have the ball"

So basically wonder if we'll be playing a lot of counter-attacking Football this season i.e. opposition teams can have as much possession as they'd like so long as they dont do anything with it
  • From that interview, it sounds as if we may have a chance of getting him as our own player.

Guess it'll also depend on what happens to the current Standard Liege Manager and if we go up or not.

Should Luzon leave Liege and we fail to go up then he may return (or may even be wanted back by whoever replaces him)

Is he with us for the season ? He's been absolutely brilliant and along with Igor is a player that we cannot afford to have injured/suspended.

It'll be interesting to see how we play against weaker or more direct sides. We've played several teams that were in and around the play-offs in the last few seasons, all who like to play a passing game. I'd hope we'd look to control possession and attack them more.

I also think a striker that's better at holding up the ball than Tucudean could make a difference. He's been ok so far but hasn't always looked strong enough. He might just need time to adapt, not every player from abroad fits straight in like Buyens and Igor have.
  • he is a class act and certainly knows how to take a pen

No coincidence that Peeters knows Vetokele and Buyens from the past. Perhaps Peeters was the reason they signed for us?
Buyens is on a season long loan so we need to do the best we can this season. If CAFC doesn't stay top six then players may move on next summer so let's hope we can keep the wins coming starting tomorrow! No pressure :)

Jurgen Klopp basically said he'd rather have 25% possession, 2 shots, 2 on target, 2-0 win as it shows you are efficient than passing around the edge of the box endlessly. This is the way to play football now in my eyes, moving the ball quickly and effectively, making runs and being ruthlessly efficient in front of goal, and hopefully BP is into this way of thinking too

    This
I posted something similar elsewhere...next three games will tell us if we can beat teams who are not looking for three points. Agree we need another couple of players...whether Bulot and Gudmundsson play will make a big difference.
I think Bulot will be helped by the fact he has played with Buyens and others before.

Buyans for the first 18 mins on Saturday was pure Premier League class. Didn't put a foot wrong and looked bald head and shoulders above everything around him. Then on 19 mins i pointed this out to those around, and on cue he seemed to completely step off the pace for the rest of the half.

I think the good thing about Yoni is i still think he can get better.

    My favourite new player.
  • Buyens is crucial to the way we play, always available to take the ball and move it on.
We would miss him more than Ventekole imo.
Really hope we can sign him at the end of the season.
    Confident from the spot too

A number of the teams we've played so far have played 3 central midfielders, yet Peeters has persisted with 2 CMs plus the wide midfielders playing narrow.

I guess the deliberate 'possession surrender' tactics we're seeing are his way of negating the opposition's extra CM, while still allowing us to play 2 up front.

  • No more photoshop please Yoni!
