Charlton Athletic vs Millwall
3pm Kick-Off
Referee –Graham Scott

INTRODUCTION

Here it is: the dreaded derby.

Maybe ‘’dreaded’ is the wrong word, but considering our history on the pitch against Millwall, sometimes, it does feel that way!

However, despite a poor record of only ten competitive victories in 62 matches, the home fixture against the Lions is usually one for Addicks fans to look forward to.

Compared to previous years, Charlton supporters will be quietly confident that Bob Peeters’ encouraging start to Valley life, means they might actually have a chance of beating Millwall competitively for the first time since 9th March 1996, which happened to be two days short of my first birthday (just to make some of you feel old).

If the home side are to get a win, they’ll be hoping forward Igor Vetokele will be fit to help, while Millwall fans will probably be happy with at least a point, following their recent spell of poor results.

THE OPPOSITION

Ian Holloway’s side haven’t really got going so far this season, highlighted by the fact that they only have won once since the start of September.

Millwall currently sit just two points outside the relegation zone with 18 points and sit in 18th place. Furthermore, with Bournemouth and Middlesbrough to come, a defeat against Charlton will no doubt increase pressure on Holloway.

Ricardo Fuller, Danny Shittu and Lee Martin could play against their former team while Scott MacDonald will be hoping to repeat his goal at the Valley last season if he returns from injury after a muscle problem.

ONE TO WATCH – RICARDO FULLER

My player to watch this weekend has to be former Addick: Ricardo Fuller.

The forward, signed in the summer from Blackpool, had a year spell in 2012-13 with Charlton, but could not quite have the impact that he would have liked due to injuries.

Now 35, Fuller can still cause a few problems despite his age and his great close control and shooting attributes must not be underestimated.

He is struggling with a minor knee problem, but is likely to play a part in Saturday’s return to the Valley and Charlton's centre-back duo: Tal Ben Haim and Andre Bikey, will have to keep a close eye on the Jamaican if the Addicks want to earn a clean-sheet this weekend.

LINE-UP

The impressive victory over Reading just before the international break probably means that Peeters is unlikely to change too much in his selection on Saturday.

Stephen Henderson will be in goal no doubt, with a back-four likely to be Chris Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey and Morgan Fox.

In midfield, Johann Gudmundsson will may play on the right, with Yoni Buyens, Johnnie Jackson and Jordan Cousins the other probable selections in midfield.

While, up-top Callum Harriott may play just behind the striker after a decent performance at the Madejski Stadium.

In addition, that striker will hopefully be Igor Vetokele after he did not feature for Angola during the break due to a groin injury.

Also, Francis Coquelin, Franck Moussa, Frederic Bulot and George Tucudean will all be pushing for starting spots this weekend.

PREDICTION

I would love to say a victory, but in truth, I feel that the game will end up a draw.

Copied and pasted from last year

    Actually think a draw.

Another limp defeat to them and i'm likely to throw a 'never stepping foot in The Valley again' tantrum of epic proportions. Be warned of low-flying dummies being spat out.

  • We can't win, it just does not happen but forget about logic, surely this year.

3-1 win for the Addicks, their goal coming from Fuller obviously and our 3 from Igor, Ben Haim & then Captain Jacko.

Please lads, just turn up and play to your ability, we can put them to the sword if you do.

2-0 Charlton win on the pitch. Don't want to call the result of the after-match shenanigans :-)

This is probably the best chance we have of beating them in a long time.

    That said, 1-0 Millwall.

I've seen us under-perform so many times against Millwall - not again - surely this time we can get the better of them?

Hate this fixture with a passion. The inconvience to the fans, the limp display from the Charlton side and the bad mood afterwards.

Fingers crossed that we do the unexpected, but not optimistic.

  • 6-5 to the Addicks
  • 2-2 draw with them raising their game for their cup final as usual.
