I wouldn't bother with a dock, I'd get something that is wifi or bluetooth compatible.
These are amazing and a great price, easily portable, and the battery lasts long too.

If you want to get something more for the home I'd, then I'd look at the Sonos Systems. Both the 3 and the 5 stand up as great speakers on their own right, but you can add components and you go. Sonos isn't cheap, but it's amazing.
I'd stay away from docks and Bose if I were you.

Don't know your budget, but I recently brought The Marantz Consolette MS7000.
As said above sonos systems are with a look. I tend to agree regarding Bose as well.0 -
Sonos is great, but expensive (I've spend over a grand on my system now). It isn't portable either - a power source is needed.
I have a minirig for travelling etc. Decent sound for the size, looks good and great battery life but not bluetooth.

I went for this bad boy when I needed a speaker this year. Much better than a dock as you can carry it from room to room and take it out.
Has a 14 hour battery and the sound is incredible.

I did quite a bit of research at the time and have to say that Bose had by far and away the best sound. Pop into John Lewis they have them all out to try.0 -
We have the Bose Soundlink III as well. It is stunningly good, very loud & with an excellent rich bass sound. Thoroughly recommended.robroy said:I went for this bad boy when I needed a speaker this year. Much better than a dock as you can carry it from room to room and take it out.

I have used it as the main speaker at the last couple of house parties and BBQ's we have had and its ridiculous loud for its size. Spot on about the base. Superb speakerRed_Pete in Dubai said:

Could not agree with this more! That speaker is amazing. Had a choice between this and the Bose Soundlink and the UE Boom came out on top.PopIcon said:I wouldn't bother with a dock, I'd get something that is wifi or bluetooth compatible.

Worth noting that the soundlink is a world away from the soundlink III. The UE boom is comparable to the soundlink mini. The Soundlink III blows them both out of the watercafcpolo said:

Thanks for the replies. Will definitely go down the speaker route. Am reading good things about these. Any thoughts:

Soz to hijack the thread but would any of you internet/music experts have any tips on how to stop my Sonos system from dropping out? I bought a bridge which is supposed to stop it but it doesn't seem to. It seems to be mainly the tunein radio stations that drop out.0

My advice is to stick with the named brands and go and test them out. You do get what you pay for with speakers.Clem_Snide said:Thanks for the replies. Will definitely go down the speaker route. Am reading good things about these. Any thoughts:

I don't have a Sonos but know a little bit about wireless music streaming. You need to make sure that the Sonos system is compatible with the router its being used on. It may be worth dedicating the Sonos system its own channel on the router. This should stop the drop outs.Heath Hero said:Soz to hijack the thread but would any of you internet/music experts have any tips on how to stop my Sonos system from dropping out? Went for a Sonos in the end. No need for it to be totally portable. Its currently blasting out Catfish and the Bottlemen. Only got the Play 1, but can't believe how good the sound is for such a small unit. Really easy to set up as well.0

I recently got a couple of play1s and they're great.1

Just got one of these for work, plugs into the normal stereo and you just AirPlay wifi to it from any Apple device. There are a few from £15 to £25.

Little fact you may not know about play 1, they are designed to withstand high humidity so u could have one in the bathroom. That said, it's not waterproof so don't take it in the bath.guinnessaddick said:I recently got a couple of play1s and they're great.

I use a simple gear4 Bluetooth from HMV, £50 and a decent enough sound0

I've put a play 1 up in the pergola in my garden, got it cover with some 12mm thick glass ( it passed last night rain). It working fine, however if I'm at the other end the garden, my phone drops the wifi, so I'm unable to control the play 1. So do I need a wifi booster or a sonos boost, does anyone know?0
