Come on everyone let's not go overboard with all the jokes...
( nitrav - a decent wide berth barge houseboat prob starts around 70k upwards ( second hand) plus the mooring costs for a large boat can be a lot each year. I know a few people who have done it for a few years then moved on, it's not for everyone, but i would do it myself if I lived on my own.)2 -
Yeah, have a stern word, no jokes. sillav is on the prow for a home.0

No, he would pull your rudder one. Or have a stern word.
Time to change tack and get back on an even keel.
Things should get lighter from now on.1 -
Absolute joke this thread. The bloke was only after a bit of advice.
It's driven me to drink.
I'm off for a port1 -
My mum and dad have lived on a narrow boat for the last 15 years, they seem very happy, they have a 63 foot boat they live on with a 2 birth cruiser alongside that they chug about on and use as a spare room for visitors!
they are based on the River Ouse at a place called Hartford Marina that has great infrastructure with a chandlers, pub restaurant, marina store and quite a friendly community around them.
there are lots of hidden costs like mooring fees and river licensing on top of council tax etc. The boat is lifted every couple of years foe the hull to be cleaned but this aside they are not considering moving back on land and are pretty cool grandparents in Georgies eyes.
sorry no puns but any specific queries and I can ask them for you,

I looked into this, just a little, for someone and we called halt on discovering mooring fees on the medway at Strood- just over £300 per month. Another thing i was wondering about but didn't get an answer to was plumbing arrangements; water in, waste out? Gas and electric can be connected to mains supplies i think.0
