Yep. And you can see it inspiring the likes of Yoni, George and any other Liege cast offs from his past. I don't like him. I have absolutely nothing fair and just to base this on. I have to cheer him and support him because I am supposed to, and I resent RD because I am now have to do something I don't want to do. I dislike RD for asking us to support whoever he decides to rotate in at his whim. If he put out a statement about how and why he chose to hire and fire BP, and take responsibility for the situation, I would be fine with it. Meanwhile, Curbs wants to come home. It's painful to think we've got a guy in charge who almost certainly doesn't understand what that means. Urgh. This sucks.2

Will give the guy a chance, but there is massive frustration that we're so obviously being given the cheap/easy options from network rather than RD and Katrien looking for the best options, no.matter what they say in carefully worded press releases etc.
Definitely in managers but pretty much with the squad too.
A huge worry for the future of our club.

It's a little hard to see all this as the work of a football club master tactician. Ok, so Powell goes, Yann goes, Riga goes, Bob goes mid season (he was YOUR choice Roly) and now we have yet another glorious new beginning.
I wish this new bloke well. Let's hope the team is now strengthened to give the man something to fire us all up with, and the slide down the table is halted.
Otherwise it will be hard not to start thinking that our new owner might be a complete tit.
And no one wants to think that, Roland.

My concern remains the fact that - given how Duchatelet has utilised the network outside of the short term (that is, in team building over summer and this appointment) and it's relative standard of ability - we do not have to be promoted to be financially viable in (what I suspect to be) Duchatelet's long-term plan.
The general idea seems to be that the TV money is the main objective and, quite rightly, it will no doubt be a factor in his thinking. The real question however, is how much weight he'll lend to it as a factor; simply put, does he really think that promotion is the best way to make money out of the club?
I don't think he does. Duchatelet is a very clever man, with a powerful command of statistics and probability - he'll have an equation for everything, and I'd wager that (despite him not being a football man) he knows more about the basics of the professional game (that is, on the pitch) than most, if not all of us. I think that what he needs isn't a club per se, but rather a professional vehicle that maximises the value of the players he's selected, and this account can go a long way towards explaining this appointment: Peeters - if some sources are to be believed - has failed to build good relationships; the team is demoralised, players alienated, and poor performances dominant (we should remember with wry smiles how well Riga kept the team together last year).
So, Luzon comes in to steady the ship; to tide things over and start piling those zeros back onto Vetokele's price tag.
The challenge for Duchatelet is not going to be in selecting the right man - understood in his sense of "right", he has a stable of obedient names - but in balancing the trade off between "good manager" and "company man". The two aren't mutually exclusive by definition, but I'm dammed sure they are in the real world, and until he balances that, I think this will be a recurring and worsening problem.

Blimey..................are things really that bad? I really liked BP (at the beginning!) I liked his presence, his manner, his encouragement to players, the football, the results, and then we had some injuries, drew games we should have won. The pressure obviously told on him and his staff and transferred to the players. I was hoping he would get a fair crack but to be honest after Saturday I thought maybe it is the right time? After reading about his reactions to Lawrie Wilson not "performing" I think that is disgraceful, no wonder the poor sod has got no confidence!! Maybe he did "lose" the dressing room?
What I am struggling to understand, is reading on here how bad we have been treated? the network is shit? I think we have got some "reasonable" players from "the network" and now we have "acquired" Tony Watt, who would we have signed if we hadn't been taken over by our Belgian friend? We are Charlton, we have no rich oligarch, no rich Arab and to be honest I am pleased. That to me wouldn't be the Charlton I love and have grown up with. What would that bring? players earning ridiculous money, the season tickets and match day tickets would go up accordingly!! No doubt there would be "untold" threads complaining about that! The way I see it is we now have another (yes another) manager and as I said going on our results and the managers body language hardly surprising. 1 win in 12 I think is pretty diabolical and after reading Charlton Life probably at least once a day most people were getting fed up with big bob!
So I as a Charlton "FAN" for the last 45 years am quite "chilled" with our new manager, if he does crap he will be sacked and someone else brought in......simple, if he does well, we will all forget the "shit network" bloody belgians" etc!
Here's to the next chapter in being a Charlton supporter! Stay behind our owner, our new manager, and more importantly our players!!!

Let me say this first; of course I'm still going to get behind the team. Of course I hope he does well. I can even see why we would've needed a change of management. However...
This is a total and utter fucking joke. What the..?!
First of all; Katrien has been made to look like a complete and utter idiot. That spiel in the programme? If that was the case then how come we knew about Luzon weeks ago? Either she was lying or doesn't have a clue and CharltonLife is more informed than her.
Second of all; Why bother making it sound like this is going to be a long and hard decision, one which hasn't already been made? Why take the effort to lie to the fans AGAIN? Say it how it is Roly and Katrien; it was a simple decision that was quick and easy as you made it weeks ago - hence the rumours.
Third of all; If this guy wasn't good enough for Standard then why's he good enough for us? Didn't you learn anything whatsoever over the debacle of Standard rejects we got last year? Thuram... Need I say more.
In short; this little escapade has been lie after lie - again. Just why? He does some great things for the infrastructure of the club and brings a couple of decent players in... Then the respect and gratitude he earns is pissed away by lying to the fans and seemingly making the same mistakes again.
We want stability and we want security. So does he; he bloody owns us. If we're a business then why is he so keen on pissing off clients?
I hope Guy does well, and I will be behind him - but to say I have any faith in this appointment, or the regiment as a whole, at this moment would simply be a lie.
It feels like we're a year on, with a nicer pitch and more expensive squad.. But the same shower of shit making the decisions. In short: a shambles. I bet he runs his Electronics business with a higher degree of honesty, and I'm sure he doesn't let his talent stagnate by simply rejigging personell from department to department.
If its a business then run it like one Roly. Stop pissing the customers off and let's go for gold.14 -

I cannot shake the feeling that we're definitely the club that doesn't fit in the Championship. Every other club in our division is at least in the running for buying or loaning players or for getting a manager from another club within the country. Not us though, we will only deal with players and managers within the network, with very few exceptions. This is not a sustainable model and no player or manager will take our club seriously until RD shakes his myopia as far as investment in players and personnel goes.
Against my better judgement I'll give Luzon a chance but it's hugely depressing that our owner has forced us down this path.1 -

No she didn't. Luzon wasn't "tapped up". He was already under RD's employment doing scouting work and the like for the network. He wasn't employed by anyone else let alone managing another team. She lied (because she was told to) to try and pretend they were making a concerted effort to look around for a manager when the uncomfortable reality is and that RD was just employing someone that he likes and wanted and there was no consideration to anyone else or whether he really is the best available for the job.barstool said:Katrien had to say all that stuff to protect the business and the club.
