Players Marks: Middlesbrough v Charlton

Dmitrovic - 7 - Solid in goal. Better today with his punching and coming out for crosses.
Solly - 7.5 - Best performer of those at the back. Him and JBG on the right were our only outlet of creativity. Fantastic challenge during the first half, which he had no right to win.
Fox - 6.5 - Tidy game but too often let down by stray passes when not under huge pressure.
Oneywu - 5 - Seemed to lose his man for the first goal and dreadful error for the second. Lumbered around and you could see why Sheffield Wednesday didn't sign him in the summer. Bring back Bikey on that evidence.
Ben Haim - 7 - A good game as we are becoming accustomed to but does look like he isn't that bothered by it all. Straight down the tunnel at FT.
Gudmundsson - 8 - MOTM - Not just for his goal, but his all round play. Hit the post and FK just over in first half. Class above the others today and increasingly becoming the case. If only he had a bit more pace...
Veljkovic - 6 - Solid before getting injured. One of our few good passers of the ball.
Buyens - 5 - Yoni has become exactly the problem the network creates. Did not want to be there today, does not want to play for the manager, knows he won't be here next year and couldn't seemingly have cared less about the outcome of the match lazily doing the absolute minimum required today. Completely blanked Luzon when subbed, we are better off without these players in our squad.
Cousins - 7 - Becoming increasingly influential when running at defenders. If only he was in the middle where his athleticism and power could be better utilised.
Church - 6 - Did the job asked of him in showing energy chasing down balls and hassling defenders. Very little in terms of balls to his feet.
Watt - 7.5 - A good game from Tony, especially first half when he was taking on defenders. Naturally faded a little second half like the rest of the team.

Jackson - 7 - a good return from the captain. Linked play nicely between full backs and wide midfielders. Refreshing to have his energy in the middle next to the idle Buyens.
Vetokele - 6 - looked lively but lack of confidence really hurting him and never got himself in a goal scoring position.

Sadly, the positivity via the radio and match threads is somewhat misguided in my opinion. We played well for a 15 minute period in the first half when we took advantage and scored. Bar that however, no energy, individual error after individual error and no appreciation for the fans who had made the journey bar the usuals in Solly, Jackson and Cousins. Second half performance was particularly insipid.

Really didn't expect anything today but the lack of effort second half has left me deflated this evening. A long journey home...

Dmitrovic - 7 - Made some big saves, controlled his box well and punched and caught ball well

Solly - 7.5 - Looked fired up for it, making big important challenges, even throwing himself into a rather painful challenge and coming out with the ball. Best CAFC player in both halfs! Good link up with JBG!
Fox - 6.5 - Confident, managed his wing well. A few misplaced passes in 2nd half leading to strong Boro attacks.
Ben Haim - 7 - Let down by Oneywu a few times, but another good game, tracked back well and strong challenges.
Oneywu - 6.5 - Great with balls in the air, struggled with balls on the ground. Blamed for first goal with not picking up Bamford and then poor error with 2nd goal to see his failed clearance drop to Tomlin. Good long throw on him, hopefully use it more. But please bring Bikey back or see what Johnson can do.

Buyens - 5.5 - Took 35 minutes to get into the game. A lot of the time clueless and effortless. Half the player he was at the beginning of season. Obviously doesn't want to be here anymore. Avoided Luzon when being subbed off.
Gudmundsson - 7.5 - Exciting to watch again, taking ball from Midfield to attack effortless. Great free kick and quality finish from Buyens lay off! Lost effectiveness towards end as he tired.
Veijkovic - 6.5 - Felt he hardly featured but good little turnout in the CDM role. Sadly taken off with Dislocated Shoulder from shocking stamp from Tomlin.
Cousins - 6.5 - Another strong performance from JC. Threw himself at everything, contested high balls and managed good flick ons. Growing into an exceptional player, key player in this ever changing team.

Watt - 7 - First start, powerful runner, defiantly something to him! Managed some great runs and even set up JBG goal from a strong run down the left. Good game! Look forward to seeing him run at Norwich on Tuesday.
Church - 6.5 - Quiet game for Churchy. But useful addition up front. Fans get behind him, no doubt he will perform.

Jackson - 7 - We have missed Jacko, and he showed why! Came on and turned up the tempo of our attack! Needed that intensity! Should be first name on team sheet!
Vetokele - 6.5 - Confidence is needed for Igor, looked like he was chasing the game when he came on! Like to see more of Igor and Watt together.

A mediocre display to be honest, looked to be chasing the game most points of the match! The statement of that you can never expect the same Charlton in both halfs ran true sadly. Ended the 1st half very well with managing to get the equaliser but this was all wasted when the 2nd half began and we had conceded within 2 minutes. Then we hardly had anything to shout about 2nd half which sadly was brought to an expected end with Tomlin's finish.

In true CAFC spirit we go again on Tuesday with Norwich!

Dmitrovic - 7: did pretty well
Solly - 7: the usual high quality performance
Fox - 6: did ok. Was worried about Adomah's pace but the latter had an off day and didn't really get into the game
Onyewu - 5: an unhappy combination of cumbersome and shakey. At fault for the critical second goal just after half time
Ben Haim - 6: competent
Gudmundsson - 7.5: showed some real class and scored another very fine goal for his sixth of the season
Veljkovic - 5.5: couldn't really get into the game during his 35 minutes or so
Buyens - 5: another very weak performance. Leadbitter and Clayton absolutely bossed the middle of the park
Cousins - 6.5: thoroughly committed and got in some good challenges
Church -6: did alright
Watt - 6.5: a very good first half. Faded in the second, which was unsurprising given (a) Boro's dominance and (b) the fact that he needs some game time

Jackson - 6: couldn't make much impact but he received very little help from Buyens
Vetokele - 5.5: looked eager but no real service

Pleasing to see Dimitrovic getting decent marks. In Hendo's absence both Pope & Etheridge have shown promise but their performances have been peppered with poor errors. Hopefully he can maintain his form and provide a solid base to our defence particularly over the next two home games. I feel he may be busy on Tuesday!!
