Do you think some sections of the support will ever be able to move on from Chris Powell & Yann Kermorgant?

    What will it take?

Easy, replace them with Riga/Peeters/Luzon, and with Reza/Tucadean/Watt/PP and the results will get a whole lot better

Powell learnt a lot at CAFC .. he's much tougher now and this is reflected in his Terriers team. In a few years time, with more experience, Powell could prove to be one of the best English managers, albeit in an ever shrinking field (English managers in the PL/FL that is)

To the names of Powell, Dyer, Peeters you could of course add from Liege Mircea Rednic the coach credited with rebuilding the Liege side who departed with the words "I refused to be a puppet". It is the side which Luzon achieved some modest success last season.

We can now add the name of Ivan Vukomanovic, the head coach who has just been replaced by Riga.

Vukomanovic as head coach picked up the debris left by Luzon and had secured 13 out of 15 points from his last 5 games at the club.

As part of his puzzlement at being fired as the Head Coach (Liege did offer him his old job as the No 2) he commented "that without him Alexander Scholz (a recent signing from Lokeren) today would be an Anderlecht player and

management has thought to put aside Mujangi Bia to force him (the player) to accept a transfer offer to Turkey.

In other words because the player had refused a transfer to a Turkish club the club executive (allegedly) wanted him dropped from the side. Nice people

For us to have a manager in charge who is there on merit.
What merit did Lawrence, Curbishley or Powell have as a manager when they were appointed?
At least they all knew what Charlton was really about and what the fans expected of them. Powell and Curbs experienced this as players and Lennie was reserve team coach for a while before getting the first team job. Whilst that may not be merit through experience as managers, with Charlton people at the helm, the fans could feel confident that they will go the extra mile to achieve their goals.

Luzon, in my opinion, is just a cheap mercenary who does exactly what he is told by RD because he knows he isn't that good a manager and finding a decent job would be difficult without him.
  • Nothing wrong with appointing one of your own as manager for the reasons stated by @WestCountryAddick . Pardew aside it's worked out well for us. Liverpool haven't done too badly out of that philosophy either.

    Only a permit to work...

Knew the league they were playing in.
Not "fired" by owners at their other clubs and then deemed ok to have Charlton.

The issue is rather that Luzon arrives with mainly negative references from Standard fans, and question marks about his previous career in Israel too. Neither Riga nor Peeters arrived with that kind of baggage.

Don't think so mate, we have many fans that enjoy wallowing in the past!

Because we're really doing well with the current team aren't we.

What's it got to do with the current team?

The question was will our fans ever move on from CP and Kermogant leaving?

    Rubbish.

People seemed to have "moved on" with Riga in charge and a team fighting for every point and playing for the shirt.

Why is it rubbish? What because you don't agree?

We were bottom of the division when Powell was sacked and Kermogant went because HE was chasing a last pay day.

I admire both as players for us in the past, but they have moved on why can't we?

Ive moved on - little choice in the real world.

However I think for many of us we wish we had seen what CP could have done had he been given the right resources to invest in the squad. It could have been so beautiful.

You only have to see how Yann is playing for Bournemouth to wish we still had that at The Valley - but then again I don't think under the current atmosphere anyone, Yann included, can thrive.

I guess "moving on" is as fickle as football, and football fans. I "moved on" last year, most notably after we beat Reading. It was a happy occasion.

My "moving on" has been reversed and I need to "move on" once again.
  • To the names of Powell, Dyer, Peeters you could of course add from Liege Mircea Rednic the coach credited with rebuilding the Liege side who departed with the words "I refused to be a puppet". It is the side which Luzon achieved some modest success last season.

Of all the weird things that have happened at Charlton post Curbs, I find this one the most baffling. The current regime gave Morrisson a new deal in the summer and then apparently forced him out on what we are led to believe was a free transfer. If they wanted rid of him, why wasn't he just released in the summer?

Can't get my head around it.

  • God, I miss Chris Powell.

When I win the super rollover jackpot prize of £120 million and buy the club, the first thing I'm going to do is buy CP out of his contract at Huddersfield and give him a 5 year one here.

I'll always believe Charlton is in Powell's blood, which in my book means he would have loved doing that double, regardless of their league position.
