Chris Powell - He Deserves a Welcome

Can I just check that none of those anti-clappers took part in the Cupboard End mass tugging session when Beckham played against us? Properly weird seeing grown men applauding an opposition player about to take a corner against us.2
-
I'm not anti clapping him. I'm anti doing it in the third minute. It's weird. If it's going to be done then it should be when he walks out the tunnel and then that's it9
-
I agree with this. A few days ago I was all for the third minute, but having thought about it, it does seem a bit unnecessary. No one's died. He fully deserves a warm welcome pre-kick-off and after the game, but I think we should get behind the boys in the 90 minutes.Greenie Junior said:I'm not anti clapping him. I'll clap him before, after and in the 3rd minute. Only time I won't clap him will be in the 92nd minute when he starts reading his game-changing substitutions.
Only joking Christopher, I luvs ya really1 -
How does "anticlapping" even work?Greenie Junior said:I'm not anti clapping him. I'm anti doing it in the third minute. It's weird. If it's going to be done then it should be when he walks out the tunnel and then that's it
I'm so not down with the kids anymore

He'll get a big clap from me before and after the game. Still find it funny that the Sheff Utd game is used as "evidence" of him being a crap manager. Ignoring anything that may have happened behind the scenes, when was the last time we had a cup run and how many better teams than us have Sheff Utd beaten before and after that game?8
-
i intend to clap him for the entire 90 minutes and whatever injury time might be added on by the referee in the hope I get a wave from him.1

Didn't paulo Wanchop score the first goal and it was the first game when the new rule, soon to be defunct, whereby a free kick would be moved 10 yards if players showed dissent. - nerd from Forest HillWeegie Addick said:When did I first realise we had a special character on our books as a player, not just a very good left back? Why, that would be when we played Derby at The Valley in Chris Powell's first season, and it would be because the Derby fans kept clapping him and chanting his name throughout the match...I'd never experienced the like of it before.
I've also just checked, and Derby beat us 2-1 that day, so cheering an oppo player didn't seem to do them any harm.2 -
What a shit excuse they've been in league one for like 5 years for a reason. They're shit and we should have comfortably won but it wasn't to becrookester said:how many better teams than us have Sheff Utd beaten before and after that game?

I will give him a huge round of applause and a standing ovation before and after the game on Saturday. In fact, that goes for any time that SCP (yes, I said it
) manages a team at The Valley.
During the game I'll concentrate on showing my support for the people who want Charlton to win - not those who want us to lose!
I still wish he was our manager though, sigh. Yes I know, move on blah blah ...5 -

I agree. Would be funny if we did score in the 3rd minute. I bet some I f our fans would expect him to run up and down the touch line celebrating.LargeAddick said:from me : a big warm welcome and loud applause before the game, may clap him off at the end but from the start of the game until it finishes he is the opposition manager. if anyone starts clapping in the 3rd minute or a stand up for Chrissy Powell then I'm sorry count me out. Hopefully we'll score in the third minute to confuse matters.

Hard side to beat at their place irrespective of their third tier status whose crowd is like a twelfth man, shame we don't generate that type of atmosphere at home often. They weren't great but neither were they shit on the day, we were and the rest is history. Powell was badly let down by those whom he had put his faith in but how the other forces at work that day affected them we'll probably never know. :-(Greenie Junior said:

If we score at 2'59, will those worried about clapping Powell during the match refuse to celebrate in case it is misinterpreted? Will those who want to clap Powell then stop if Huddersfield score in the third minute? How can we possibly resolve these important ethical dilemmas?14

Polite applause from the brandy boys before the game.0
-
Whether you clap in the third minute or not wont make any difference to the result.
I could have won a lot of cash predicting who the nay-sayers would be before I opened the thread.6 -
Hmm, I don't know about that. Since Villa fans stopped clapping "Stan" in the 19th minute, they hardly score now & have plumetted into the relegation zone

You've got a much better memory than me, Kap! Now you say it, though...Kap10 said:

To be fair, if one were to celebrate a goal by instantly clapping, then that is a dilemma in itself.Airman Brown said:If we score at 2'59, will those worried about clapping Powell during the match refuse to celebrate in case it is misinterpreted? What about if someone got the wrong end of the stick and went down and tried giving him the clap, would people continue to applaud?Airman Brown said:If we score at 2'59, will those worried about clapping Powell during the match refuse to celebrate in case it is misinterpreted? I don't think anyone's saying that it will effect the result (I'veAlgarveaddick said:Whether you clap in the third minute or not wont make any difference to the result.

only been scanning so may have missed this) people are mainly against it cos it's outright weird. The man wants us to lose.
Why applaud a man in the middle of something he's trying to make us lose at?? Weirdddddd.3 -
To those comparing CP to Riga: I know last season is dead and done with . . . but I must repeat, when CP was sacked, we were 3 points off safety with 4 games in hand. I genuinely don't remember anyone saying he was going to take us down at the time of the sacking. Im not saying we would have had the fabulous Riga Run but Its fairly certain we would have stayed up.4
-
The big dilemma is not CP and the Clap ?
We need new fans and ex fans to come back, if we blow it on the field on Saturday
the £5 game will be just a one off for the newbies.
As our relationship is on the rocks, even thou we had a good valentine's day.
and a good night out up north.
Roland And Katrien must see we need to go to Relate.
We've had 4 relationships in a year and we are getting a reputation as an old slapper. (metaphorically speaking)0 -
4 premier league scalps in 2 seasons suggests otherwise. We should have won but clearly they're a good cup side.Greenie Junior said:

I think that applause at any time should be spontaneous and not pre-determined. I will be applauding without worrying whether it is the right thing to do or not. Hell, I sometimes even applaud the opposition if I think it is warranted.
Do what you think is right.4 -
I am completely confused and have decided to remain silent for the entire match for fear of offending someone.2

Here's a revised version. Thanks to @suzisausage and @PL54 for the feedback, I've now got all the e's right :-)

As for DM & BR, yes I am accrediting them with the Watford defeat. I don't know who's attributing it to Luzon, but Charlton, Watford and the Football League are all quite clear:
First-Team Coach Damian Matthew and Goalkeeping Coach Ben Roberts took charge of the Addicks at Vicarage Road, with Head Coach Guy Luzon still awaiting his work permit. http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/charlton-watford-report-2208659.aspx
For the Addicks, who were led by caretaker managers Ben Roberts and Damian Matthew while new head coach Guy Luzon awaited his work permit, it was a 10th game in a row without victory. http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/150117-watford-fc-v-charlton-match-report-2208338.aspx
Damian Matthew and goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts will oversee the trip to the Hornets. http://www.football-league.co.uk/news/article/2014/sky-bet-championship-weekend-preview-2204978.aspx
Luzon is expected to take charge of his first match on Saturday 24th January, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, once his work permit has been issued. http://www.football-league.co.uk/news/article/2014/guy-luzon-the-story-behind-charlton-athletics-new-head-coach-2203270.aspx
