I would have thought so too. Whatever is going on here it's unlikely to be primarily about the money. If Pigott were playing regularly and developing it would be in our interests to cover his wages in their entirety if that's what it took to allow him to stay.

Of course, it could be that this is simply a negotiating stance on Newport's part, i.e. they are seeking to reduce the fee they originally agreed, but the statement sounds definitive.

I'm afraid that the most likely explanation is that Newport aren't that impressed so that the loan isn't working out. As far as I can tell he hasn't been a regular starter and Newport may have made it clear that he's not likely to be.

It's true he's scrored three goals, but two of those were wicked deflections and very fortuitous and the third a "worldly", which while nice says little about the player's ability.

I think this shows just how difficult and hit and miss player development is. Holmes-Denis is starring at Oxford, but neither Lennon nor Pigott have been able to get a regular game at other League Two sides. Be interesting to see what the next step is for each of these players.

I believe that's 6 or 7 goals in 11 games he's now scored for Southend.
Add that to 3 goals in 10 appearances for Newport, earlier this season.



Very decent ratio of around 1 goal every 2 matches - and some of those games were short sub appearances.

So long as we don't bring him back for the Millwall game........ Mind you the way they're playing he may get a couple and clear away a few demons!

Ironically Obileye scored for Dag & Red in that same match too

Was listening to an interview with Harry Kane and he was saying they main difference for him this year is that he spent a LOT or time in the gym building his pace and power.

I'm not saying Pigott can or will be as good as Kane, but with some time spent on the off season he could carve out a very good career for himself

He's probably in the right place to learn about "physicality". You don't get too many ball playing centre backs in League 2.
