Has Jackson only missed 2 ? Could have sworn he had a spate of misses at one point ( I'm not implying he's a bigamist btw!)3
-
(Edit due to dodgy internet connection)
I seem to remember that Mike Kenning's only miss was a night game and a rocket penalty hit the post.
I understood that in training he would tell the keepers where he was going to put them0 -
He also missed one in a JPT penalty shot out against Brentford.alan dugdale said:Has Jackson only missed 2 ? Could have sworn he had a spate of misses at one point ( I'm not implying he's a bigamist btw!)

Christ, the keepers must have had terrible eye sight if they didn't know where he was. Surely he was right in front of them? (:thai malaysia addick said:I seem to remember that Mike Kenning's only miss was a night game and a rocket penalty hit the post.

Edit: didn't see that shoot outs were included. I'm pretty sure he has missed 3 in total, 2 in league games and 1 in the shoot out.ricky_otto said:

Deon Burton was much maligned in my opinion. Very decent footballer.7

It would be interesting to know the stats on number of pens awarded in a season. Seven so far this season seems quite a lot to me.0

Good knowledge. I will amend the list now.No.1 in South London said:

Since 2003 the club handbooks don't mention missed pens bar ones in penalty shoot outs.0 -
Gudmundsson scored from the penalty spot at Leeds this season, so that makes it 8,Lazy_eye_metaphor said:It would be interesting to know the stats on number of pens awarded in a season. Seven so far this season seems quite a lot to me.
Season 85/86 we were awarded 10 penalties all taken by Mark Reid. 8 from 10 scored with the failed attempts coming at Crystal Palace at home (For his hat trick) and away at Middlesbrough.
Season 95/96 we were awarded 11 penalties. 9 from 11 were scored. Lee Bowyer missed at home against Huddersfield and John Robinson missed at home against West Brom. The 9 pens were scored by five different players
Paul Mortimer 5
Carl Leaburn, David Whyte, Mark Robson and Bradley Allen all with one each.
Seven different players in one season attempting to score from the spot and not a penalty shoot out to be seen!

I knew there was another Jackson miss - Burnley away in a 1-0 win.

He also missed in pre-season at Portsmouth. That's why it seemed like he'd missed quite a few in a short period of time.1 -

Great stats but need to edit the Di Canio, he had a penalty saved by Seaman up at "The City Of Manchester" but tapped home the rebound.shirty5 said:As follows: % Ratio followed by Pens scored and how many taken
This information is from Colin Cameron's Home and Away book and club handbooks there after from 2003. Since 2003 it does not mention if any Charlton player missed a pen, bar Sordell last season so there may be one or two inaccuracies. Penalty shoot outs are included.

Just noticed that 2 of Bob's 3 misses were at home to Preston. Would that be Alan Kelly goal for at least one of those occasions?0

i think he was in goal for both or did kelly get injured during one of those games ?thai malaysia addick said:Just noticed that 2 of Bob's 3 misses were at home to Preston. Would that be Alan Kelly goal for at least one of those occasions?
the first game was the anti climax last game of the season when we knew palace would be promoted
the 2nd game was the game that clinched our promotion and i remember thinking oh no history repeating itself when he missed but Bobby Goldthorpe and Killer came to the rescue

Didn't realise Bob Curtis took so many. His consistency over so many more than anyone else surely makes him our best ever? Yoni Buyens has a chance to match him if he hangs around for a number if years but 20 out of 23 would take some beating and much longer than any modern- day footballer is likely to hang around.0
-
It seems that the vast majority of missed penalties are at home. I assume that has something to do with added pressure from the home fans. Interesting.0
-
I think it may just be that we get more penalties at home. Bob Curtis only took 4 of his 23 penalties away from home.meldrew66 said:It seems that the vast majority of missed penalties are at home. I assume that has something to do with added pressure from the home fans. Interesting.

I'd be interested to know which of our goalkeepers had the best penalty saving record. Always felt confident that Bob Bolder would save them.0

Sam Bartram by a fair few, but that's for another time/thread.ricky_otto said:I'd be interested to know which of our goalkeepers had the best penalty saving record. Always felt confident that Bob Bolder would save them.
