Charlton Athletic 1 (0) (Powell 70) Watford 3 (2) (Farley 5 Scullion 44 Jennings 58)

Charlton: Dunn, Penfold, Warman, Bowman, Goldthorpe, Reeves, Powell, Hales (Hunt 63), Horsfield, Dunphy, Flanagan.

Watford: Dalrymple, Butler, Williams, Morrissey, Lees, Keen, Farley, Bond, Jenkins, Scullion, Jennings. Unused sub: McGettigan.

Referee: H P Hackney (Barnsley)

Sacked: This proved to be Theo Foley's last game as Charlton's manager. Ironically, prior to the game, he was presented with a rose bowl by Charlton Athletic supporters club to mark four years as boss. On the 23rd April, chairman Michael Glicksten announced that Foley had been relieved of his duties. Chief scout Les Gore was appointed caretaker manager forthwith.

Charlton's finished in mid table. Of their 46 games they won 19 drew 8 and lost 19. The average home attendance was a meagre 5,306. The final game of the season against Aldershot attracting only 3,245 punters.

    Scullion and Bond in their team both played for us.

    3 or 4 years before that we bought a donkey from them called Barry Endean who was a striker (in modern parlance) and scored a lot of goals for them in the old division 3. he got 1 goal for us!

    Maybe Big Chris and Gray aren't so bad after all!

    oh how we sung "la la la Barry Endean " to the tune of t rexs hot love !

    one things for sure he wasnt that hot in front of goal ....i think he went somewhere else and started scoring again ...was it Blackburn ?

    Yep...crowds were awful back then. There's a game v Fulham when only 3,000 odd turned up. and let's face it, even just prior to leaving The Valley, the crowds were shite. Only 6,000 odd v Palace in 1985!!

    Can you imagine what Charlton Life would've been like in the 70's and early 80's with some of the crap that was served up on a regular basis?! There'd be meetings every week!!

    the management would have eventually got fed up with us and moved to another ground ...hold on wait a minute !!
