A road commemorating the life of a popular historian has been branded "homophobic" by a gay couple who are demanding its name be changed...

Mr Tucker wrote to parish council chairman Mike Taylor, saying he was horrified by the "homophobic" sign.

    It's the bloke's name!

They demean their cause with this nonsense.

Not the best of headings for this thread mate.
Interesting story though, and the fella should be celebrated being inextricably linked with the local history by having a place named after him.

Living in a country that almost encourages homophobia, that story is mind blowing.

As I was saying to my mate Barry Killbender the other day, sometimes modern life has just become beyond parody...

I'm horrified by that street sign.

    No apostrophe?

Tbf to the gay couple, the man's name was Bangay. Bangay Road isn't "as bad" as Bangays Road.

I'm on the gay's side. (Even though I'm a fascist Tory).

What stupid is the council got his name wrong or they left out an apostrophe either of which would have meant the road name made sense.

They had one job and got it wrong

    It's Bangays Way, not Road.

Frank Bangay Way seems OK (as does Bangay Way). It's not homophobic though, just poorly thought through.

I think we should start a petition to get Mongolia to change its name, its very offensive to people with learning difficulties

The couple admit to finding it humorous before they thought "maybe we should be offended by this?"

Odd order of events for something they claim is offensive

Add the apostrophe - problem solved. And Sevenoaks council should not employ an Illiterate sign designer.

No, but the neighbouring village of Blackboys Out does.
