No way are we a big club. It wasn't long ago that us beating Coventry was seen as a giant killing. 8 years ago maybe, we've come a long way though

As opposed to Southampton, Wolves, WBA, Stoke, Preston, Coventry, Sheff Wed and United, P*lace. I still see Forest as a bigger club than us

    What is a big club?

How do you measure it? Ground size, number of years at the top level, trophies won, media profile or a combination of all those factors and others besides?

We are definitely in the top 30 and possibly even top 20 in my opinion in England.

A mix of history (trophies, pedigree) and fan base which I suppose ground size goes hand in hand with.

I don't think Ground Size and fan base does go hand in hand Carter.

One could argue we have a bigger fanbase than most given our connection with China!

You should have thrown up in his cab at the mention of the gooners (what is a GOONER?) and then done a runner.

If the league was determined on the size of the club, we would be in the championship with Bolton and Blackburn. Forest, the Sheffield clubs and Leeds would be in the premier. Wigan and Fulham would probably be in league 1.
  • No

we are not a big club we are a well run middle sized club with big ambitions and even bigger aspirations by some of fans

Coventry have been in the top tier for ages before they last went down, as were Southampton who only a few years ago were in the FA cup final (yes I know Millwall were as well but we haven't been in one of those for quite some time) The two Sheffield clubs are just bigger clubs than us, more recent cup finals, decent history and have lots of fans more than us I reckon.

We're the biggest club in South London, surely that matters more? :-)

    Lookout - Well said

Ooh Aah - Away support doesn't really represent the size of a club. Maybe the loyalty of the hardcore fans, but not the size of the clyb.

Carter - In all honesty, would you swap Charltons history to have that of Coventry or Southampton??? No, because they're not big clubs, regardless of their 15 years or whatever it was of top flight football.

I wouldn't swap our history for anyones.

In my experiance the larger clubs tend to bring more fans than the smaller ones
