I wonder if it revealed what the academy guys really aspire to in 2015. Not saying I would blame them in their position. Just to be clear, I was part of the comms team when they started tweeting and we gave the green light to the account.
I still think their account is a good thing, and watching them react to winning the title this year was great. If anything was pointing out that when we decided they could tweet from an 'official academy account' we did fear a tweet like that might eventually come.
Funnily enough Joe Gomez was one of the initial tweeters.3 -

Joe is going to be an inspiration to all the other academy players. He's also going to persuade the parents of other talented young kids that our set up is the best place for their sons too. Success breeds success and I'm looking forward to seeing the next Joe break through even if we don't see him playing for as long as we would like.3

As you've indicated Pragueo (as I believe you're called on the training ground), while we've been sneering at Palace and remembering 2005 they've turned themselves into a well-run and somewhat progressive club. We had that sense of progression in the 90s, we rarely did in the 70s and 80s hence Rufus stayed, people like Paul Elliott went for peanuts...PragueAddick said:

That sense of progression and ambition is what might persuade a young prospect to stay, at least for a bit longer. Decent longer contracts obviously help, but for every Gomez there's a Joe Pigott not quite the prospect we thought...
I believe that RD wants to progress I think the businessman in him understands that ticking over and turning in a steady financial return in the Championship is not a viable strategy (it rarely pays off long term in any business) At some point you have to at least threaten to reach the PL.. And that's what we want as fans surely ...to at least be challenging and moving forward in some way.
So part of the basis for developing youth and cashing in has to be to progressing on the pitch with the first team. Otherwise you will be running a well-admired youth set-up that can never expect to keep the production line running for ever ... Look at Crewe Alex at the moment...how much can they expect any bright star to sell for?
Which is btw why I'm amused at Millwall fans' acceptance of relegation. We might lose Gomez but all we can do is pick off the best from those below us. Bowyer goes, Kinsella comes...that's how we progress6 -

Agree but isn't it exactly what we do to smaller clubs than us ? I'm not saying that I think it's good or healthy that the big boys Hoover up all the young talent often actually stunting their development and growth as a player but I don't think we can be particularly holier than thou when we look to run a development squad made up of the young talent we can afford.AFKABartram said:Good insight into views of fans of different level clubs. Everyone likes seeing good youngsters break through and flourish I their first team. I think we have to accept now that anyone with real quality / potential will never feature in our first team for more than half a season, if they even make it to the first team at all before being snapped up.

Am I the only that thinks we have gone back to the old days when we have agreed decent signings in private (nothing announced yet) the money raised from the sale of Gomez will be used to finance, if other clubs know we have the cash from this sale they will make theie transfer fees higher.3

Think he could do better than Liverpool by the way, recently they've signed a lot of youngsters, loaned them out then they've gone nowhere - the likes of Coates, Ilori, Borini, Aspas etc.
Think he'd have been better off at Arsenal or United if they were options.6 -

At this stage in his career - he needs to keep playing first team football and learning. If Liverpool can offer him that, they are the best team for him.0

Good luck to Joe. I don't think he's anywhere near good enough for Liverpools first team squad yet but he's probably set himself up for life and if he's hard working and careful he will reach his potential.
