We are all gutted. Its been a strange few weeks. But as a Charlton fan of nearly 40 years I just want to get my piece in above the doom and gloom

8 games to go (maybe 11) each one with something to play for
Away trips to Ipswich and Plymouth already booked
A Board who are 100% Charlton Fans
And who have just secured the clubs financial security to 2024 on that basis
A Manager with a good track record of securing promotion from this league
A squad which has been radically overhauled and may have some potential
A position in a league which is I believe 9 places above the historical average for the club
A stadium that 25 years ago we could never have dreamed of
and its a safe and friendly place to go and watch a football match
and where my 2 sons can go with pride as committed Charlton fans (not Chelsea or Man U or Arsenal)

All in all its something real and genuine. And sometimes it hurts. But you never know what the next match will bring.

Im getting pissed on Saturday on Adnams and Greene King and then Im gonna give it my all.

    Good post. I totally agree, and on the Pardew subject, would be absolutly senseless to get rid of him, he needs at least two more years to rebuild, I just can't understand this "things are not going well manager out" thing, we did it twice last season and I felt very embarrassed both times.

    not forgetting average crowds of 22kish ...... i don't think we've ever had that in second tier football at the valley

    Leicester City in the bottom 3 of the Championship.
    Leeds United not even in the play off places in League 1.
    Proud clubs like Wrexham and Mansfield about to drop into non-league football.
    Southampton, Coventry with all their top flight experience, in financial problems just outside the drop zone.
    Sheff Wednesday, another big club, at odds with supporters, suing fans and websites, just outside the drop zone.
    Brighton & Hove Albion still playing in a poxy athletics stadium.

    These are the realities of the 'real' football world. Serious bad things have happened to this club in the past, and you never know, may happen again in the future.

    But they are not happening now.

    I started this thread politely with a view on positives only. There are stacks of negative threads to join in on.

    Pardew has had to work under 2 remits this season:

    1) Promotion to the Premier as absolute priority within 2 seasons - for the Board's financial reasons.

    2) Move on all players on existing Prem contracts and yet still create a promotion winning team, essentially this season but with a safety net of one further season if necessary.


    Everybody in football knows that success is rarely obtained overnight which is why the Board and Pards spoke at the beginning of the season of a '2 year plan'.

    But realistically, Pards has been under pressure to secure promotion this season - but without the time required to find the right balance of players particularly the character of players and how they fit in.

    This split focus of being expected to win promotion at the first attempt yet also build what is essentially a brand new side in too little time would normally prove problematical to the best of managers.

    Despite what most people on here seem to think, he might still do it ........

    * Andy Hunt in his first season with us scored just 6 goals in 38 appearances. Luke Varney, Andy Gray take note.

    * Our home attendance on Saturday was the third hoighest out of the 33 professional games held in England. Only Man U and Liverpool posted higher attendances.

    Youth team has some promise!!!

    I know Shelvey gets many plaudits. But that Solly chap put in some fantastic tackles against Sunderland.

    Moo2 and Samedo will be much better players next year, totally settled and used to the championship, Racon may breakthorugh with Josh Wright, take the pressure off of ZZ and Holland.

    Why do so many just give up so easily?

    We might not be the only team that goes on a bad run.
    You watch - some of the other teams will stutter and stumble.

    It happens towards the end of every season .......

    Great to log on to some "glass half full" posts.

    ....Marcus Bent is only on a one year loan. We can have him back scoring goals for us in the Premiership next season.......
