Well, I thought this would be a bit different from the FLS with some things better and some worse. I didn't expect a throwback to the 1970s with awkward fans and wooden "expert". I was missing Steve Claridge, which is not something I would normally say.
And we got even less time on. I won't be bothering next week.
(I've no real issue with switching between divisions, as long as it is done well.)0 -
Once again, we have a TV program that sends out the message that the football league is all a bit of a laugh and not to be taken seriously. The BBC's football league show started like that but towards the end was a very solid show.
I mean you'd think TV producers might have learned from the Lizzy Greenwood episode from 4 years ago, but no, we have a replica.
Lastly, why are they trying to draw suspence by not showing us the league tables until after the break? We all have the internet; we do already know what they look like.4 -

The highlights during the credits summed it up, clips of football as well as clips of what happened in the studio (in front of a live audience!).
I guess they they were trying to attract more viewers by changing the traditional format but they need to realise that only football league fans will watch it and the highlights are freely available elsewhere.1 -
What I am impressed with, and we had it from Jamie Reid when he commentated on us previously, is the likely response that they, the broadcasters, the professionals !?!? know best, and we the plebs know nothing.
The media people will very very often brook no argument (look at the Sky TV reaction to Algarve regarding the Charlton coverage), and as they're holding the mic so to speak, they can do a Roland and we have to put up with it.
Others have said the programme can get better, but the production team are hardly likely to admit cocking this up monumentally are they...after all they are the professionals (!)? The good news is it can get better by making the actual football the heart of the programme.
Get rid of:
The presenters,
The studio audience.
The set.
Michael Vaughan.
The presenters footballing mate who was particularly bad.
The invitation to join in (only if you have effing twitter/facebook or instagram, no normal email FFS).
Martin Allen or any such embarrassed awkward guests with no structure or brief ('What do you want me to say' FFS)
The graphics.
The league tables.
Telling us the result before we see the action.
The adverts.
The running order as it was.
The assumptions about teams when the season has just started.
The clumsy clunky attempt to create structure (as in ex-England players who are managers in league two).
Maybe they ought to learn from their own Cricket highlights programme which is not too bad.
It really was terrible, and nearly a day later it still feels as if I was cheated for 90 minutes last night.

Just watched the programme and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be based on this thread. They did things in a weird order but it wasn't a total train wreck. I think us having a great result against a former Prem team and being left to have a tiny bit of coverage at the end might have made people hate it more.2

A completely absurd programme which, as Nick says, trivialises the Football League and presents it as some sort of puerile novelty product. I gave up after half an hour and am glad I did. In future, I'll just wait for the highlights to be posted up on Player, the Sky website or YouTube.
The format is actually worse than the abominable 'Wimbledon 2Day' - something I didn't think was humanly possible.1 -
I think it's clear me and my coworkers delivered a superior production. Mannish walking across the balcony during MOTD letting us know what the action is coming up. Leroy looking concerned after Mannish asked him a question. Claridge contradicting himself. We had something special. This channel 5 shit was never going cut it. #FLS rip11

Did anyone watch the round up show on Sky Sports today? Proper commentary, showed all the games in order (except a couple of Champ games at the end which were extended highlights). No presenters or anything. If Channel 5 did that, but just added a little bit of punditry after, it would be a complete success. They tried too hard when people only tune in to see goals and perhaps a few words on their team.6

On the positive side, 5 have made worse programmes. That game show with Keith Chegwin in the buff or Rebecca Loos tugging off a pig.
I'm sure next week will be better.

With the most raging hangover I've had in years it has taken me a total of about 3 hours to watch the entire show due to frustrating internet problems in my house.
Wow. That was a whole new level of shit altogether. I seriously do not know how they were able to make it that bad. I've never seen a sports/football show as bad as that in my entire life. Ever.2 -

For anyone who did record it, rewatch it without those expectations and with a beer. It's hilarious. Some of those awkward looking 'fans' in the audience will have you cracking up if nothing else.0

It reminded me of a cross between Acorn Antiques (Julie Waters/Victoria Wood) and Alan Partridge.
If you asked someone to dream up the worst show possible, that was it.
If you have the facility to record and watch at the same time, I'll do that from now on, if I'm in.
Start watching at 9.30 FF the crap and catch up by the end. Sorted.1 -

I recorded to watch this morning. After 10 minutes, I wisely decided to fast forward through. After the fourth or fifth advert break, and seeing the Newport County highlights, I assumed I'd missed our goals so went back to the start...1

I'm sure lots of us were keen to watch it, to see how good (or bad) it was.
I was, so I watched it. It was utter tripe and I won't watch it again.
If i discover Channel 5 have recognised the awful disaster of a TV programme they have created and they decide to try and revamp it into something better, I'll give it another go.
If it is still tripe (imo) I may well express that opinion on this forum, just as I may well congratulate Ch5 if they get it right.
By the way, a good result yesterday, little ol' Charlton beat Ex-premiership, West London Giants, Shepherds Bush Rovers, two nil ...................2 -
to be fair to Channel 5 they're trying to give the show a bigger audience by putting it on at 9, so making it more accessible then the Beeb did, who have dialled in the last 3 years of the contract. I suspect the show won't look the same after the international break, they'll learn, and it'll improve.3

I watched "FL72" on Sunday, and there package was about as long as Channel 5's. With one difference.
Still no sign of JBG's free kick, but they didn't even show Pope's save. They did show Charlie Austin hitting a shot off target, though.
It was like CA's agent had said to the Sky producer, "Look, I know Charlie was pants, but can you show the only thing he did right, so I can get him his move back to the Premiership? You can have a bit of my (10/20/insert your own number)% commission when the deal goes through..."0
