It's a fair point, but we did it with a near enough fully fit squad. Could we beat those teams with Watt, Gudmundsson and Cousins?colin1961 said:
We beat QPR and Hull drew with Derby and Notts Forest , these are the type of games everyone through we would struggle but we have not .......The Red Robin said:killerandflash said:
What I mean is that today isn't the be all and end all. Even with all our injuries, we nearly beat Wolves and would then have been 2nd. There are plenty of opportunities to bring players in, and loan signings may be driven by injuries. If 2 CBs get injured, then we'll need cover there. If all our strikers are fit, we may one in midfield/on the wing. The Red Robin said:
Not to moan but shouldn't we now be aiming to do more than just go on a good run towards the end of each season? Why should the playoffs not be a realistic target?killerandflash said:Our permanent squad is fine, at most 1 or 2 players short. You don't sign another striker to cope with a short term situation with FOUR strikers injured.
The mistake last season was not to get any decent loan signings last autumn, that was when we needed additional bodies.
Last January's window was a damp squib, but we then signed Johnson, Eagles and Diarra, and went on a good run.
I just think there needs to be of a long-term plan at Charlton rather than short-term signings every season when it's too late. We nearly beat Wolves, but didn't. They're the type of games and results that are the difference. If Luzon had had more in to draw on from his squad could we have held on or got a draw?colin1961 said:
If Igor was not fit he would not be on international duty .....The Red Robin said:
And wingers? Cousins is wasted at right back and at left midfield. Igor isn't quite fit yet either.colin1961 said:
But Igor is fit so is Watt and Simon will be ok for Rotherham we have cousins who can play at right back ...... we are pretty well coveredThe Red Robin said:Yes we've done good business this window, no one is questioning that but we've also lost Gomez, Bulot, Bikey, Ben Haim and Harriott. We are clearly in desperate need of at least a winger. We're already starting to suffer from a few injuries and haven't got the squad to cope. I agree with @J BLOCK , with one or two more additions and a bit of depth for the season we could be genuine playoff contenders.

Someone says that every year when we don't sign anyone.ShootersHillGuru said:If the clubs of the players we wanted were asking silly money I'm glad we pulled back.
Yes we need a couple in but there will be a lot of premier players available for loan over the next few weeks and not all of them inexperienced.
We would be mad not to utilise that resource and hopefully keep some cash in hand for January.
And it never happens.1 -
I wonder how well get on in the 1947 cup final, anyone got a spare..........ricky_otto said:
He probably should know that the club recently put a statue of Sam Bartram up behind the west stand as well.Bolderhumphreyreid said:Can someone tell Large that we've sacked Chris Powell.

If we get in a player as good as Coquelin then I'm in favour.ShootersHillGuru said:If the clubs of the players we wanted were asking silly money I'm glad we pulled back.

Might sign Kerm in the loan window next week

Hmm. When Makienok went off injured on Saturday, it appeared to be the biggest reason we lost the game, we might have otherwise won. We had no one up front to hold up the ball. Now if Kermy had been on the bench ?Greenie said:
I bloody hope not......Dizzle said:Might sign Kerm in the loan window next week

Anyway the greedy one has been playing behind the front two since going B Mouth.1 -
I've got 100/1 that the ball will burst, like last year.0

After guy stated on several occasions we still needed 2 players and we WILL sign an attacking midfielder , its hard not to feel a tad dissatisfied but we have a good squad overall and as we know loan transfers and unattached players have played a big part in our recruitment in recent years so I'm sure our squad is not yet fully complete.

Don't think we have had a pleasant late surprise on transfer deadline day since Jerome Thomas arrived.1
-
Stephen Kelly, Jermaine Pennant and a loanee premier league player all in before our next game, we're just saving a couple of weeks worth on wages by not signing them right now, chill guys it's all good B-)0

think the word "before" is missing between since and Jerome?sm said:Don't think we have had a pleasant late surprise on transfer deadline day since Jerome Thomas arrived.

What worries me is that if we get another couple of injuries, we could find ourselves on a downward spiral. We have a good starting XI but there is no great depth. Our U21's are good but are they good enough to maintain the standard? Time will tell but I would've been happier if we'd splashed a bit of cash.3

Our best XI (IMO)
Henderson
Solly Bauer Diarra Fox
JBG Kashi Ba Cousins
Makienok Watt
Haven't all played together yet, and what with:
Vetokele, Sarr, Ceballos, Bergdich, KAG, Jackson and Pope on the bench the first 18 is good enough to rival anyone. Lennon, THD, RCC, Reza, Moussa, and possibly Pennant to add as well, supplemented with loans if the going gets tough, that's fine by me. The fact we haven't panicked into buying someone late on at an overpriced rate (Martial 36m, 10m more than Rooney at that age!) Is a good thing in my eyes11 -
Anyone think we'll announce the signing of Pennant at 6:01?1

That's it then - on the bright side - no last minute OUTs! Glass half full!4

Been out all today so can someone summarise for me all the signings we've made today with a precis of each of those players' CV to date so I know whether they are likely to be automatic first teamers.
Thanks in advance.

We have made a really good start and in my opinion with a fully fit squad we could be top 6. However since the season started Luzon kept mentioning 1/2 signings which have not happened. Sure the loans open next week but it looks just like last season where nobody was brought in until too late and the good start had gone. If the same happens it will be so disappointing??1

Charlton Athletic.................letting you down since 190515

Feel sorry for Luzon, same story as last summer, some good investment but not enough to fill out our squad to give us that serious chance at promotion.7

At 100k he was an absolute bargain back then.ricky_otto said:

And he was a very, very talented player. Even on the days when he looked like he couldn't be bothered he was able to make Premier League defenders look very average. he scored some great goals. I think he just didn't look like he wanted to bother in the second division. I also think he went on to have a career playing at least one division above us after he left.kentaddick said:
