He did indeed. I take it all back. 1 in 20 perfectly acceptable at this level.
  • The last 10 minutes is why I love football. Couldn't see it coming but you just pray for something. And being able to shout at lonergan after equaliser about his time wasting made my day. With hendo, Big Mac and kashi we would have destroyed them. Coyr.

    I so agree
  • How about the 90 year old ball boy at the end. He got it big time.
  • Must say I didn't see that end coming. Full credit to Jacko and Cousins though and it shows what can be achieved when you attack the ball. Some folks are getting carried away though -I didn't see much character, or any creativity for the best part of 80 minutes.. and even our good players (Gudmundsson for one) are woefully low on confidence. Let's hope there's a platform at last to build on, but it'll end in tears if Luzon continues to select (and to defend) shit performances from players who simply aren't good enough (G/K and left back to begin with).

Where we lucky? Maybe so! But there is no way I'm going to grumble it about because the number of times we have been unlucky because of deflections etc.

no, we were not lucky. We scored two good goals through skill and endeavour in the regulated playing time. That's how football matches go. You might argue that Fulham should have been more alert late on the game to defend their lead but they didn't.

You are only lucky if, for example, you have been awarded a goal wrongly. That wasn't the case today.

We were awful for 80 minutes. Pedestrian, no ideas, static up front, ponderous in possession and we were pretty much outplayed, lucky to be just 2 down.

Jackson came on and gave us what we needed - a goal first, but some leadership and quicker passing from the middle of the park. Watt and KAG came alive up front, Moussa - who did very well indeed - added some pace and guile, and JBG started finding the space he'd failed to for the rest of the game.

The game is about more than ability and one-dimensional tactics. It's about how a team melds together, and the elements that make it happen - which include character and leadership. Jackson's introduction raised the crowd, raised our game and raised a goal that we'd looked incapable of finding.

A lesson perhaps to Mr Luzon - Ba flatters to deceive. Jackson's game might not be so pretty, but it's so damned effective.

Felt for Pope - he does need to work on his handling, but keepers' mistakes are so often punished with a goal. The ball bounced awkwardly in front of him and - whilst he certainly should have done better - as ever our defenders were nowhere to be seen. Credit to Bauer for a nice touch in encouraging Pope immediately after the error.
  • Three quarters of the way into the game I was disinterested enough to work out what I was going to write on the post-match thread: we need a keeper that doesn't spill low bouncing balls on a regular basis; we lack a striker of the calibre of Ross McCormack (but so do most other Championship teams): our midfield lacked a player like their Jamie O'Hara who was involved all game and hardly misplaced a pass; we don't have an on-field leader. Solly needs to concentrate on his RB role and not be burdened with the captaincy that he's not cut-out for.

At the end I was obviously much happier and although the comments above still stand, the commitment, movement, teamwork and overall performance was just in a different world to what we'd witnessed before JJ's wonderful cameo.

So what's next? Henderson, Solly, Bauer, Diarra, Fox, JBG, Cousins, Kashi/JJ, Moussa, Watt, Makienok. That looks a good, balanced, team but will we ever see it with injuries and occasional questionable player selections? Perhaps the international break has come at a good time and we'll get to see the real first XI soon.

Was dipping in and out of the game due to eldest having football and indoor cricket matches
luckily thanks to SKY i watched the last ten again and with the slowness of SKY GO managed to turn that on quick enough to see Jordan Cousins equaliser once I'd received a text message it had just happened
More than happy with result but Popey needs to be out of the firing line , I had high hopes for him but now I'm thinking he may not make it at Charlton now
Seemed a reasonably exciting game for the millions of football fans watching on SKY , so I'm sure they can move a few more of our fixtures round to accommodate us in the schedule again
None of our lot who sit together (15) made it to today's game , prolly 10 or so would have been there on the Saturday
Got to love captain fantastic Jacko inspiring a magnificent comeback for the Addicks
Shame about the international break but hopefully we can use it to our advantage this time with some of the walking wounded returning to fitness

My experience today was absolutely fantastic.

This was possible to @Henry Irving, who firstly suggested I got down to the Bromley supporters night to meet Keith Peacock, and secondly to the great man himself, Mr Peacock. So Thank you @Henry Irving .

After the meet, Ben kindly introduced me to Keith, and after chatting for a while, I said my farewells. I bumped into Keith again in the car park shortly afterwards and he said If I'm in town for a game I should get in touch with him. As it stood that wasn't going to be for a few months at least. However I decided to stay a little while longer here, and was available to watch the game today.

So earlier this week I messaged Ben through here and asked if it possible to get in touch with Keith, and he said he'd give my number to him. Now knowing that he is a busy man, I thought no more of it, until Keith called me last night at half time of the ENG v AUS rugby game. We bemoaned the game for a few minutes and then he said If I was going today, and if so to pick up a ticket from reception for the West stand.

So today when I went into reception, I gave my name, and the lady immediately said, are you must be the Australian.
With that she handed me a ticket to the stand, and a pass for the Millennium suite. She also told me to stay put as Keith wanted to meet me in reception.

Keith came down, and greeted me like an old friend. I explained he had done more than enough already and I could find me own way to the suite. But he wasn't having any of that.

So he took me into the ground via the players entrance, where straight away I was Introduced to Stephen Henderson. We then went through to the main concourse, where the dressing rooms are, and as we walked past Kit Symons, Keith stopped, introduced me to the man who was kind enough to spare a few moments chatting to me. He came across as a lovely bloke.

From there we walked out of the players tunnel onto the pitch, to the dugouts and viewed the stadium. He then offered to take a couple of photo's. The ground looks world class, the pitch is a billiard table. And I love that we still have the old school dugouts!

Keith then took me into the Millennium lounge, introduced me to a few people as he had to go off and fulfil his match day duties. He said with it being a sky game, early kick off, and with no trains running, it made the day a lot more hectic, and he had a lot to do.

It just confirmed what a decent gentleman he is, to take the time out to give me a tour, on such a busy day for him.

He caught up with me after the game to see how I'd enjoyed it, and wished me well.

So yes, I had a fantastic day.

The game itself has been covered by others on here.

All I can add is that we played a lot better than the Rotherham and Huddersfield game. I'd say we earned the draw. We played some nice patient football.

I did noticed that just before kick off all the players embrace, yet JBG and Watt didn't. I think there's no love lost there, Just my opinion.

I'm very happy not to of lost this game, and I won 20 quid on Jordan's goal!

I look forward to my next visit back to the Valley in a few months, But I dont think it will be topped due to the magnanimous and kind gesture by our club legend, Keith Peacock,

Days like this, with Men like Keith, are what makes Charlton, Charlton.

    I Love our club.

    Christian.

Wow. Wonderful story Christian. Keith has always been my number1 Charlton hero. A few years ago I was fortunate enough to meet him at a POTY do. I took along a couple of letters that he had sent me when I was a kid, back in the sixties, and had written to him wishing him well for a forthcoming operation. He was blown away that I still had the letters 40 odd years later. He told me how he nearly moved to Australia at one stage as his wife had relatives here. He is an absolute legend and I am so pleased that he is still involved with our club.

The fact is, it is hard to see us getting anything out of our next game. Reading are flying at the moment.
  • I wouldn't pretend that this was our best performance this season but I felt more positive than I did after the previous couple of home games (even at 0-2).

We were going ok until Pope's mistake and it was a shame our big chance came so early in the game. Pope really does have a problem with hard low shots close to him. I would imagine it's worked on a lot in training so I'm doubtful as to whether it will ever improve. Hendo can't come back soon enough.

Apart from that I thought, defensively, we were solid enough but I do think the lack of urgency in getting the ball forward starts at the back with Diarra and Solly being slower than I would like. It was a weakness under Peeters and has crept back into our game.

The midfield worked hard but a) we need a creator in central midfield, and, b) the Everton lad is not the answer on the left. I'd like to see Moussa given a run at it.

Tony Watt is still below his best but he does come alive when the tempo of team play is higher. We've got the ability to play at a higher tempo so GL need to get this consistently from the team. KAG, again, showed a lot of promise and would benefit greatly from an extended League One loan.

The scary/annoying thing is if we could get back to half of what we was the first few games we would have beat Fulham, taken something from Cardiff and got more out of the 2 home games. I know it's all ifs and buts but besides 3-4 teams in this league the rest are Shite. Hopefully this point gets them back on track.

People saying we were ''abysmal'' should think twice, with more firepower we win that game hands down.
Its fair to say Pope needs some training to work on some aspects of his game but i think hes actually quite a good shot stopper!
JJ needs to start the next game ahead of Ba and hopefully this gutsy performance will bring on better times.
  • I'm no goalkeeping coach, but Pope's problem seems to be shots bouncing off his chest. Wouldn't a simple solution be, instead of moving forward to take the ball, he instead goes down on his side, thereby taking the ball more into his soft abdomen, with less chance of it bouncing out to the on rushing forwards. It's such a shame because he is so good in many other areas of his game.

yup, hoping this result may turn the season around ... I still believe we have a strong core in this team and can do something exciting this season

My Dad spoke to Kashi at half time and he told him he has to have an operation on his leg. So not sure if he will be back any time soon.

Jeez. When and how did this injury happen?

  • If Kashi is injured I'm not sure how much we'll miss him - plays like a fifth defender, always v deep.

have not read the thread yet but there has been a lot of mention for Jacko's stirring performance, and quite rightly so, but Moussa also made a big difference and deserves special praise. The answer to our left sided problems in my opinion.

Moussa cannot be ignored, it was the first time he's actually looked fit when playing for us and Fulham didn't seem sure on how to deal with him.

    Good came for me.

The answer to LM? I'm not sure we've seen enough to answer.
  • Do we have a sports psychologist at the club?

During a particularly lethargic period of the second half I sensed that belief was draining from the from players and supporters alike. JJs magical cameo role seemed to inject that vital missing ingredient and act as a catalyst for the team (and supporters) to up their game.

Chris Powell employed one in March 2013 to good effect http://www.danabrahams.com/news/working-with-charlton-athletic.php

Anyway once the players are sorted out perhaps we could all have a half time session from the big screen. Together we can do this. Ommmmmm

The giving away of goals by individual error (sadly Pope a few times now) is having a real demoralising effect. You could literally feel all confidence sap once he'd fumbled. Additionally, with Rhodes at Bolackburn and McCormack yesterday you can see the difference what a top quality striker has in taking half chances and impacting on the game. We don't have that.

We looked for the bulk of it like a side I feel i've seen various times over the last few years under different managers when our striking options just aren't right; Neat and tidy with play, the opposition defence sit back on and two centre halves sit back on the edge of their box and allow us to play in an unpenetrating 'U' 10-30 yards outside the box. With the lack of confidence and lack of option to play into, we seem to play at 70% pace.

great fightback, great spirit. The most impotant thing is using it as a springboard. Starting to feel now we are permenently away from one bad result turning into a 4-5 game run, which worries me. Equally, clear up Mak and Hendo's injuries, win a game, and all of a sudden you'll be thinking about winning runs.

As Henry said a couple of pages ago, we are a bit of an enigma at the moment and our season can still go both ways.
