North Stand tickets v Sheff Weds without red card etc

Did anyone manage to buy tickets today without any membership/ season ticket for the North Stand? i.e turn up and buy a ticket?
I only ask as there was a guy in Harvey Gardens today with two pals who said the north stand ticket office wouldn't sell him any tickets as he didn't have a membership. He was a first time, casual visitor and it would be a shame (perhaps not a shock?) if casual fans were not able to get entry.
He'd given up and gone before I could find out more from him directly.

The tickets were on restricted sale as SW had sold out the away end, but not communicated to the fans, nothing unusual about that.0
