A good friend of mine is president of the SE London branch of Ornithologist, he told me that the very rare lesser spotted Patagonian wood pecker has been spotted building a nest in the upper reaches of the North Stand at the valley!
These birds have been wiped out in all places and are practically extinct. They are naturally very reclusive and all captive breeding programmes have been unsuccessful. Suffice to say the valley will close for about 2 months to allow the eggs to hatch out safely. In captivity when these beautiful birds have laid eggs and humans have come into contact with the birds and eggs the mother has eaten the chicks on upon hatching. There will be an announcement shortly from the club and all remaining home games this season will be played at Upton Park

dear oh dear Solid, you're losing your touch sir !!!
more tit than woodpecker :-)0 -
I can't see how that happened. The mating call of the Patagonian Woodpecker is "Boooooo, Boooooo". The only way that the birds would have mated and then nested in the area is if they had heard their mating call.
No, just no believable IMHO0 -
Isn't there a way we can move the birds and still play at the valley?0

that's very selfish of you FOD. Surely the life of those little birds has to come first.0 -
I also thought it was crap when I recieved the text from a Spanner. But then again, there are some wierd people on this site who might enjoy it and get in the spirit of April fools - thanks Sir Henry!
PS: I am sure there has been worse.0 -
