Thought he played well and he looked like he could handle himself.

Hopefully he can keep this up

nice to read that he's come straight into the team and made an impact .. all we need now is a consistent striker .. ohhh and a creative midfielder .. I live in hope and don't really expect too many more signings before le crunch next weekend at the Millers

I am glad he did well if for no other reason than people insisting on 'British' experience as if it's worth more than any other kind. Believe it or not in other countries strikers try all sorts of tactics to get the better of defenders and defenders learn how to deal with them too! The Fly turns Spider and has Rhodes in his web without ever having played in this division before...

Anyway rant over now to finish this wine...
  • If he missed the ball, he never missed the man. They knew me was there....
    Well done Jorge

Looked a strong centre half who knows what he was doing.

  • Positionally he was brilliant. Spent most of the first 5 watching him in detail, he was always calling up the line and being very vocal to Fox and Lennon in particular to hold the shape at set plays and play the offside trap perfectly. Had a couple of scoring chances, he also looks like he can deal in the dark arts you expect from a centre back. Perhaps a more anal ref would give a load of free kicks against him, but he did exactly what the Blackburn bully boy CBs did and it was what we are crying out for in a team devoid of much fight. Impressed

If this is the sort of centre back we've been needing all this time, why have we been mucking about signing chuff on the cheap? It's clear that if we opened the purse strings just a little wider, we can get some real quality players.

Sarr wasn't cheap. Rumoured £1.8m I think and on a 5 year contract. They went for young players who would hopefully have sell on value, not realising they need more than 2/3 experienced players in the team alongside them.
  • Well done M. Duchatelet.

Your innovative strategy of letting the coach pick his own players pays off.

If only other owners could see his genius.

Jorge didn't mess about or try to be fancy, just got it clear. Physically strong too.

Only one game but so far so good

He looked like someone who has experience of playing at a decent level. Wasn't afraid to get stuck in or shout at his colleagues.

Whose idea was it to play Bergdych though?!

My initial YouTube assessment was pretty much spot on. No frills, solid defender.

I'll say it again - has a very good chance of becoming a fans favourite

Should have scored with a free header, but strong and did not get bullied. Great positionally.

Absolutely. I especially liked the way that he, not only kept an eye on the forwards, but he watched Edwards like a hawk and was always close to hand.

It's good seeing a defender who wants to defend. It IS an art and Tex seemed to make it look easy.

I didn't notice him as much as others clearly did but for me that's a good thing when a defender doesn't create attention it usually means they are having a good solid game. There was one moment in the first half where Rhodes almost nipped in behind the whole defence but he was pressured into making an error and the chance came to nothing due to good defending.

We definitely looked more organised in defence than we ever did during the Karel Fraeye horror show.

Can't wait to have him play alongside Bauer.

Excellent signing and very strong .. Bauer and him together will be some team

I take it from the time of the post you didn't make it to the protest?
Perhaps he has a phone? Perhaps he had to go somewhere with family like myself, perhaps he was at the last two like myself?

Good in the air, now all we need to is actually cross the fecking thing.
Beggers can't be choosers i suppose

I think Roland might have that machine!

I was very impressed with him. Came straight into the team and made an impact. Riga said he was fit and ready to play and he was. Shame we bought others not ready, but it's done. Have to hope JR gets a couple more like him, for other positions.

    Colin is brilliant at multitasking.
  • He played well, looked solid. Here's to more performances like that.

I thought he was very good. One bad clearance in the first half but otherwise great.

Network scum none the less though.
  • I said if he was half as good as the other Portuguese Jorge, he'd be handy. He was more like Costa than his size would imply.

Couple of great crunching tackles, their front two knew they were in a game. Good positional play, good decisions, dangerous in their box and Lennon benefited from the chat. Sarr would also no doubt benefit - he has skills, just also lacks experience.

    Keep it up Jorge!

Had Graham in his back pocket and made Rhodes look shite at times.

Was my Man of the Match today... Really had Rhodes in his pocket today.

Blimus!! If Rhodes scored yesterday, surely he would get a sack of goals when he wasnt in someones pocket or shite.

Absolutely. See for reference: every other time we've played Blackburn. He must have more goals against us than most teams do!

For me it was a Stephen Henderson own goal yesterday... Hendo makes the save with the ball hitting the post then hitting him in the back before going in.

Usually that kind of goal is credited to the Goalkeeper

Hmm. I was impressed, but it is only one game.

    - Great decision-making after he won the ball and needed to distribute
    - Good sense of position, with a couple of exceptions where he played a very deep line when no-one else did (there might be reasoning behind that which I don't understand)
    - Might get crucified on pace every so often: he was involved in a footrace with Danny Graham, who isn't exactly the quickest, and just about beat him to the ball
    - Good clearing header and if he needs to get rid he does that well
    - Crunching tackler when necessary
    - Gamed the referee quite well in terms of how he handled (or rather beat up) Jordan Rhodes: if he's similar to, say, Richie McCaw for New Zealand in terms of being able to quickly figure out what particular refs see as the boundaries of legality on the pitch and adjusting accordingly, that could be a very useful asset
    - On the flip side, if he can't judge accordingly then we'll see him get a few cards which wouldn't be useful
    - Should've done better with that free header but hey ho

Overall - pretty pleased, but I can't say more than that just on one game.

    We won't go down.

£100 to the Upbeats if we do. I have no doubt one of my many stalkers will remember come May.
  • Thought he looked very good yesterday. Will be a tough choice between him, Sarr AND Johnson.. Almost an embarrassment of riches!
