Horse and Groom

Fancied a pre-match pint for old times sake on Saturday, so thought I'd pop down to an old favourite - the Horse and Groom, but was shocked to see it shut down.

What's happened there then? Anyone know? Is it just a refurb?

Many a happy pint was drunk in there.

Not many pubs round the ground anymore, is there?

Apart from the Oak, I can't think of any. Didn't there used to be a pub called the Valley, about 10-15 mins from the ground? Up a hill, I seem to remember but not on any of the usual walking-to-the-ground routes.

  • Been closed since November, got bought out by the Oak in the Summer, they botched the changeover and refurbishment a treat, lost custom and it's now probably primed for some sort of development.

With the Oak rammed and my path not going through the village to the likes of the Swan and the Bugle, I've been drinking in the "White" Horse down the Woolwich Road beforehand now.

Shall be doing the Anchor for the last game. If not before most definitely after. They normally do a good one down there bank holidays - lots of free hot food, live singer etc etc. Acutally once the singer leaves about 7ish, its kareoke time. I can visualise it now.

Had to meet some family before the Southampton game so agreed to meet in the Oak and definitely won't be going back there. Spent 20 minutes trying to get served at the bar, the manager was actually serving people standing behind me before serving me as they were obviously regulars! Eventually got served after shouting ''I only want a f**king Fosters mate''.

Definitely be back in the Lib for the Coventry game.

Mandy from the H&G is now working in the White Horse, had a good chat with her after the West Brom game, unfortunately i was far too inebriated to remember much out of it but there was some reminscing definitely... as i said before think the H&G site will resurface not as a pub, but as some sort of development in the relatively near future

Phew, that's alright then, I've just found out that the Horse and Groom is alive and well in Charlton...

    www.horseandgroominn.com

    (In Charlton, Wiltshire, that is!)
  • Horse and Groom in Plumstead aint bad, not a very nice journey to the Valley from there though.

Didn't really go to the Horse and Groom in Charlton much, just remember the pool table in there was always leaning to one side.

H&G best landlords were Irene & Phil, top people who looked after us, taking nothing away from Big Pete who was also top draw.

    DA9, Leftbehind,

If you never see a yellow box on quotes, my best guess is look down all the options on the left hand side. Under the number of users, posts info, there should be the option 'Text only mode is.....' If yours says ON, switch it over to OFF.

Over than that, i'm a bit baffled.

Well, I'm a little bit behind (as usual), but let's see if I've got the hang of this quoting malarky now...
