Gulf between players and fans
I get the impression most of the players don't want to be here which is a sad state of affairs.

Bergdich / Ba / Reza are the only players that as a fan I dont really feel a connection with.
One of the best things about the League One days though were that because the Grounds are smaller, the fans are closer to the players and therefore there was more communication between the two (i.e. You'd forever see John Sullivan having a chat with fans at away games in between his warm ups)...
Unfortunately the way English Football has gone, the moment you get promoted to the Championship now, you do lose that closeness with the players (Have felt it ever since we came back up)0 -
the booing of fox hasn't helped, that's 100% certain12

It happens when your ownership are forcing players that aren't good enough to be playing weekly as there are no other options, we as fans, most importantly, want our Club to succeed. That succession may be hard with players who are, currently at a League One if not League Two level are playing week in week out and struggling.DOUCHER said:the booing of fox hasn't helped, that's 100% certain
I'm not agreeing with or promoting the use of boo's against your own players, but there's usually a reason to it. Most managers would demand they get a loan in to replace him to stop his confidence being shattered, but our owner simply doesn't care. He's ruining young players in his experiment trying to create them to sell them on.0 -
The thinness of the squad will ensure that a player that had potential will continue to be played no matter what, and will go backwards in terms of his development, until he has to leave the club to have any chance of resurrecting his career.Jarman said:

Whether Fox is actually that poor or not, he is made look worse by the regime's woefully inept approach to player recruitment and retention, so that there is almost no relevant experience in the team. I'd be inclined to say that Morgan Fox in a settled and experienced team would be a much better player, his teammates would have a greater understanding of both the league we are playing in and their own responsibilities in terms of supporting each other in defence and attack.6 -
I know why they are being booed but its still not helping and its almost as though the fans have thrown the towel in and are enjoying the protests more than trying to help the team stay up - the current situation is bad - the belgiums are a joke - but the most important thing to me is that we stay up and that's why I'm not going to keep getting up and down all game or boo players who are trying their best. I'll protest outside and i'll withhold my season ticket money but the rest ain't helping.1

Inevitably, fans identify less with a struggling side, plus a reliance on loan signings and here-today-gone-tomorrow imports dilutes the loyalty factor. Generally fans get behind players who are good or who works their socks off. Too often lately, the on-field performances would try the most patient man ...2

There's many reasons for the gulf, but I think it's existed in football ever since the wages started to spiral. Most of us would turn out for Charlton for free so it's always going to be galling to see players seemingly not putting in 100% and getting shed-loads of money for it.
It's a shame to see a young player like Fox getting abuse if he is playing to the best of his abilities - as has been said above it's not the lads fault - it's the fault of the owners/head coach for continuing to select him before he's ready.0 -
He's 22 years of age and has had 31 games so If he's thought not to be good enough yet then he might never be !Saga Lout said:

This tickled me from Wiki: "To the dismay of all fans of Charlton Athletic, On 25 April 2014, Fox signed a new three-year deal, securing his future to Charlton until 2017"2 -

It hasn't helped, but to be honest at this stage who really cares? I'm one of the happiest, clappiest, support the playersest posters on here and even I'm not bothered about it anymore. We've won five times in the league this season and two of those were in August. Do we really have to dig ourselves out for getting on the players' backs? It's not helping but it can't possibly be making them any worse as we are hilariously bottom relying on £9m strikers scoring last minute equalisers for other teams against our relegation rivals to keep us in touch of survival. I still support the players but at the same time I've had enough of crap performances and enough of 'next time we'll do better' comments from players that come to nothing. I'm at the point where if Chris Solly has a bad game against Cardiff I'll follow him home and boo while he does his weekly shop round Tesco. And I love Chris Solly. It's time for the players to start being footballers.DOUCHER said:the booing of fox hasn't helped, that's 100% certain

Or the fact that Nick Pope was signing an autograph outside the ground on Saturday.
As he was passed the pen, someone shouted "CAREFUL, HE'LL DROP IT!!"...2 -

I'm sure keepers of all abilities at all levels have "jokers" shouting things like that at them all the time though, whatever their form.Addickted2TheReds said:Or the fact that Nick Pope was signing an autograph outside the ground on Saturday.

Anyway, what did Pope do, fumble the pen into the hands of the nearest player to follow up with an easy signature?5 -

Most hit nail on the head.
Everyone has their right to boo as they claim, yet want the players to be as open as anything and communicate better. Make your mind up.
If I was Fox, even though I'm sure he knows he hasn't been in the best of forms, but I certainly wouldn't be pandering to some of the fans who boo me every week. Saying that, if you think about it, most of us would stick two fingers up at "communicating" also.0 -

Misread the title of this thread and was hoping to read about an upcoming Ryder Cup style event;)0

Shouldn't that be "sticking two fingers up AS communicating"?_nam11 said:Most hit nail on the head.

To summarise, this is no longer OUR Charlton, and never will be until we get rid of the useless twosome. Elsewhere you will find the two options that I am considering while they are here.0

We all identify with the players far less under this regime and reasons are obvious.
However let's not fool ourselves into thinking this is a new phenomenon. (Pleased I got a spell checker). I distinctly recall Keith peacock getting slated, Peter Shaw, Lawrie maddern, Carl leaburn and even the hard working Garry Nelson. I generally don't agree with but it has probably always gone on at the valley and all other grounds.

Bloody hell!! I thought a charity 4 ball had been arranged at Shooters Hill between fans and players!!! In support of CARD and all that.0
