Lennie coming in as Director of Football under this regime will make no difference at all. It'll damage his reputation.

Lennie coming in as Direct of Football under new ownership, may be a good thing, provided his role was just about the club. Not the team. Not signings. Not coaching staff etc. He's too old for that.

Lennie, Curbs, Varney.........i have a lot of respect for them individually, but do we really need to be looking back in our history when looking to our future?

Best manager Charlton have had great to have him back

Only the great Bob Peeters compares...
  • I'd like to see Lennie as DOF, and Simon Clark as head coach.

"According to reports, Charlton want Lawrence to be a part of the mass board level structure changes set to take place at the club and are keen on using his experience to appoint a capable head of recruitment."

Hopefully Meire goes as part of the mass board level structure change.

thought the Board is RD, KM and RM. Can't see too many 'mass' changes happening there.

In my opinion this is all being spun by the Club in an attempt to make fans think that things are going to change and renew their season tickets as a result. Do they think we are stupid?

To my knowledge the first leak didn't come from the club, so I don't think they have been spinning it.

Heard this a little while ago.

Lennie is a 'football man' and never really gave a stuff about supporters imo.

    Can't see it happening though

Lennie did a great job for us after a dodgy start. I still recall him getting abuse over substitutions with fans singing regularly 'lennie Lawrence has f***ed it up again'.
    .
Probably the same bell-ends that used to sing "Steve and Alan out...." (to the tune of Where's Your Mama Gone).
  • We don't know what Lennie's remit is yet. Director of Football is a catch all or nothing title. I think it's obvious that Jose doesn't know what it will be either.

It sounds to me that the owner wants to have a British knowledge base in overseeing the football and recruitment but possibly with Riga as head coach if Jose can work within the overall plan.

When the player recruitment post is filled I imagine it will be thrashed out then.

If this story is true it marks a complete turnaround in the policy of the regime.
A British director of football was never in their thinking.
I believe the thought of relegation, the failure of their strategy, the poor season ticket take up and the fans' protests have brought this change.
Also the rumours of a shake up in the board and senior management seems,at last, to be positive for the future.
It is surprising that we have heard nothing from the CEO.

I believe the fans deserve a statement from the regime either denying or confirming these matters.

Perhaps a few emails to cafc are needed.

That was Arnie Warren's role wasn't it?

On the same lines as Benny Fenton circa 1977-83? That would work, in my view. (But don't recollect Fenton making too much impact on day to day results at the time).

It occurs: could this suggestion be coming from Paul Elliott?

LL is Charlton through and through. Having him at CAFC - even cutting the grass - would be an asset.

I seem to recall Andy Nelson returning as general manager for a short period. Can't remember who the manager was, perhaps Mike Bailey??
  • As much as I like LL, I can't help thinking that his appointment would be a very bad signal for our future. I think it would mean that RD and KM are going nowhere. Lennie would be there to take the heat off KM and would become the new public face of the management team. A clever appointment that will allow KM to fade into the background even more than she already has. Any flack will then be directed at Lennie who is responsible for the football side of things. Curbs would have been a far better appointment as DOF 12 months ago, but too many fans wanted that to happen, so it was never even considered by KM. Appointing Lennie would be the next best way of appeasing the fans, but without having to admit how dreadfully wrong they have been.

Lee Bowyer, Dean Chandler and Jamie Stuart could then come back to smoke the grass

"‘I once took a player I was signing for a curry and he couldn’t eat it, it was too hot for him. I nearly pulled out of the deal, I thought if he couldn’t cope with a Madras, he’s no good for me."

    This is what we need.

Lennie is past his sell by date. We need somebody younger and more up to date with today's football, economics and general strategy.

As much as I LOVE the man!

Lennie DOF and Ken Craggs as manager.

Don't think Ken would be interested in eating in Katrien's restaurant, after the last time he had dinner with the MD of the club.

I thought Ken Craggs had passed away recently.

He was relatively recently part of the successful palace set up alongside Freedman, which they failed to replicate at Bolton.

I'm not sure whether it would be a good thing or not but what I don't get is he's 68, why would you want to?

Two maybe three days a week in a sport he loves. What wouldn't he.
