    Skybet latest (FFS):

Charlton Manager First League Game 2016/17 Season

    Nebojsa Vignjevic 5/4
    Simon Clark 4/1
    Steve Cotterill 6/1
    Chris Wilder 6/1
    Nigel Adkins 10/1
    Paul Lambert 14/1
    Dougie Freedman 14/1
    Chris O'Loughlin 16/1
    Jason Euell 16/1
    Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz 16/1
    Chris Powell 16/1
    Malky Mackay 20/1
    Gary Johnson 20/1
    Uwe Rosler 20/1
    Steve Evans 25/1
    Michael Appleton 25/1
    Alan Curbishley 25/1

Notice that's 'Manager First League Game 2016/17 Season', not 'Next Manager Appointed by Charlton'. They obviously know Roland's style very well and accept there could be any number of people in the job between the next appointment and the start of the season.

I've previously been a big fan of Adkins but he has just led Sheff Utd to their lowest league finish since 1983. His star has faded and I'm concerned he is now a busted flush. Would prefer a younger, up and coming manager like Wilder, Edinburgh etc but given the chance of Adkins or Nobby it's a no-brainer.

Agree 100% about an up and coming manager. Justin Edinburgh is a great shout. Likely to be a similar proposition to Wilder in terms of affordability (salary / buy out clause wise).

Is the poster a pompous fart?

    Discuss.

Are WSC letters page contributors pompous farts? Or is there more than one Perry in Portugal? A good letter anyway, if it was indeed you.
Definitely 'our' Perry @Algarveaddick ... interesting letter mate

Stepping back from the whole regime scenario. I wouldn't mind seeing either Cotterill and Adkins at Charlton. Both could do a good job.

    But...

Could you really see either agreeing to be a Head Coach, and not the manager, with no say on transfers etc. Nah, me neither. If Wilder said no, then they will to. Unless they completely change tack (or even better completely sell up), then it will be Nobby Vinegar, an under strength squad, and straight to league 2.

The pigeon hasn't arrived with my copy yet. Andy did mail me to say he was going to put it in. Fame at last...

I'd like Tisdale too but he's on quite decent money at Exeter and has an excellent relationship with the owner.

No other reason usually. Unless they're just updating it based on the Wilder news.

We all know it's going to be him with a statement along the lines of "We tried to appoint a British manager but..."

The thing I believe RD would like about Adkins as whilst he's a success in most of his career at managerial level. He is very good and blooding through young players, what suits RD's model well.

If Bradford don't make it in the play off's I would like Phil Parkinson back.

Still remember their comeback being 0-2 against Chelsea. The only club to have ever done so against Mourinio at the time. Now very experienced at this level and will know all the players we need to get out.

Passionate about the job and even bought a player with his own money when last here. Shows he knows what he wants and prepared to do all he can to get it.

He didn't buy a player. It was suggested he paid the wages for a loanee, whether that is true or not is debatable

As much as I liked Parky, I respect him too much to come back here.

He's at a club where he is valued and has proofed his worth so far... so no chance of him coming to work with RD

    Is Darrell Clarke...

Wouldnt be a bad shout, has only managed Salisbury and Bristol Rovers yet has over a 50% win rate with both sides, does he have the so called experience that KM mentioned yesterday though

His early managerial career success wasn't too shabby but not many top goalkeepers let alone the level Adkins played at have made it. He doesn't come across as sincere and I'm not overly keen on the platitudes he regularly churns out. Better than a no mark network puppet I suppose but I think I'll pass.

Wears pants outside trousers, crumbles in front of dodgy grass coloured substance. Sounds perfect.
