The Modern Lovers - Jonathon Richmond and the Modern Lovers

A re-discovered classic from 1973. I'd forgotten how good it was and just how much Richmond was influenced by Lou Reed. As I read somewhere the missing link between the Velvets and the Ramones.

Photograph - The best of Ringo Starr

The overlooked Beatle but some decent pop tunes and a surprisingly good voice

Neil Young - on the beach/after the goldrush/Everybody knows this is nowhere

I'm told he's playing at the Hop Farm in Kent. I'm tempted

As the resident Classical musician- i'lli add

    Mozart's C minor mass- ( for gig Sunday )

Strauss' Alpine Symphony- ( for gig Monday )

Two completely contrasting works but both absolutely awesome- if you havevn't heard them- do an MCS and real ale, and just give it a go..

At the moment listening to Captain Beefheart - 'Trout Mask Replica', from, like ......erm, a very long time ago.

Before that, Pink Fairies - 'Never Never Land' from about 1971. First band I ever saw live, Black Prince, Bexley.

    Earlier, Manu Chau -'Esperanza',
    and Bonobo,
    and Quantic Soul Orchestra.

Yeah, Jack Johnson, a little bit bland & one paced (bit like our midfield ....!)
but fine as chill out and wind-down at the end of the day.

Ha ha, I might even play Brushfire Fairytales when I turn it in, in a mo.

Vince Vincent and the Villains - Gospel Bomb. A mate got it for me 'cos he heard they were Rockabilly, which they ain't, but you can hear the influence. A bit like Morrissey but more cheerful...

been listening to the soundtrack from the film 'Once', an old Big country album I located somewhere and some opera stuff (it drowns out the annoying stuff they tend to play in the gym).

I saw them live the other week. Mick the Stick is still going! I might just add that they were at a festival weekend rather than me specifically seeking them out...

The National - Boxer & We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery are two cracking albums on the MP3 player this week.

eerrr... Elvis, but obscure Elvis tracks/albums only really known to devotees like myself, you can buy Jailhouse Rock & Hound Dog on about 50 different albums so they dont get much airplay in my car or MP3, into the rare live stuff either bootleg or via soundboard recordings.

Yes, I am an Elvis bore..........before Gump or Goonerhater get typing.
