    A remarkable performance, Mr Froome. I've seen pros descending whilst 'sitting' on the top tube, freewheeling, knees tight, hugging the frame, but have never seen someone pedalling - at some considerable speed - in this haphazard position. Crazy, but effective. Chapeau!
    p.s. Separate topic, but remarkable feat #2: Danni King lapped the field in tonight's Red Hook criterium - apparently the first time that this has been done in the event's history.

    Apparently he was going down at about 55mph.

    Its unbelievable as I would even entertain going down that mountain in my CAR at that speed let alone a bike!!

    Renshaw abandoning a couple of years ago would have been an absolute travesty for Cav, but the days where lead out trains could grind everyone into dust appear to be over. Cav has won all three stages this year by freelancing off other wheels - something he's better at than any other sprinter - so not as much of a disaster for him.

    This last climb could be an absolute humdinger - I reckon there'll be attacks all over the place - fancy Dan Martin or Purito to give it a real go - both of them live in Andorra and will want to do well, and both looked really, really good yesterday

    Well that shoots that theory to bits. Movistar clearly thinking it's pointless trying to put the hurt on Froome until the Alps. Annoying really, cos it could have made for a brilliant sage going into the rest day

    Still a cycling novice so perhaps a silly question but how would Froomes brakes differ from those on my road bike? Went down the hill from Knatts Valley into Eynsford which is fairly steep and winding in places and I nearly shit myself when reaching circa 55-60km/h and Froome is doing nearly 90...!!!

    it's his nerve that differs from yours more than his brakes

    He's always been a bit behind the curve on descents, clearly been working loads on that and a fantastic performance.

    Great stage win from a great cyclist.

    Also Froome has the 'luxury' of knowing that nothing is coming in the opposite direction.

    I have to say, it doesn't look the safest of positions to ride a bike downhill if you still wanted to have children

    I think he had his testicles removed before the stage and kept in a small refrigerated bag and they will be reattached after the Tour.

    Froome / Thomas / Sagan and one other have broken away from the Peleton (Lead of about 10secs) with 10km to go in the latest stage.

    Quintana went with them but couldnt stay with them and has been caught and spat out the other end of the Peleton, huge couple of miles for Froome's chances of glory come Paris, hopefully he's not going to cook himself too much ahead of Ventoux tomorrow

    Cavendish has just had a mechanical issue and is out of the running even if this breakaway is caught

    Amazing ride from Froome and Thomas. Is using that much effort for just a few extra seconds going to be worth it with Mont Ventoux tomorrow?

    As Brailsford has just said though... At least they're racing their way to Paris rather than simply waiting for the big stages

    Love it. Everyone expects Froome to attack up the hills so he does it on the flat and the downhills instead. Froome, Sagan and Thomas is one hell of a breakaway group

    I saw something on the BBC Updates about the commentators finding out about Ventoux but they didnt go into any detail

    Be huge if that is the case and be understandable if thats why Froome attacked today

    Yep that may go against Quintana if he had any plans for tomorrow.

    He seems to be keeping his powder dry, like any good Colombian :-)

    I think they said the winds were around 110kph on Vendoux. Looking likely to finish 6k shy (I think) as this area has plenty of trees for some shelter. Boardman did say this part was still a good 10% climb tho.

    I still don't know my domestique from my elbow but find it fascinating to watch, even better that the Brits are doing so well.

    Cav's 'shit happens' comment live on tv did make me chuckle.

    Sagan apparently offered up the stage to his team mate but didn't anticipate having to sprint it out with Froome. Thomas said it was an absolute grueller.

    Where did that come from? I can see a GC rider giving up a stage win but not the green jersey
