    I was privileged to Chair an international conference for leaders of YMCA's a couple of weeks ago.

    Our opening keynote speaker was a traveller from Canning Town. He was a member of the ICF , did time inside , joined the foreign legion and now is one of the worlds experts on Romany culture in addition to being a global expert on youth work. If you met Brian in the street there is every chance you would know he was a traveller , by the way he talks dresses etc. I also know lots of travellers from my locality and from my local. I know there reputation and some of the stuff that goes beyond reputation. Notwithstanding all of this , many of our views on travellers are as prejudicial as our views on other "tribes" that our not our own tribe.

    That's an interesting point, where does race start? I mean, we are all the human race, but i guess if you and a large group of people identify yourself and your family's culture from owning a ford cortina then you could arguably identify you and your family as that race.

    Can only comment on the Tinkers I've come across and 99% literally don't give a fuck about you, your belongings or anybody else's. Their general attitude (the ones I've met) is basically why respect anything when in a month or so we'll be long gone anway.

    A lot of Romanys stick to one site, and although they can be a handful at times, they always respect the people and places around them. They'll only cause you trouble if you cause trouble with them first.

    Just went past myself, at least they're making use of an empty plot of land that'd otherwise be going to waste. The land is owned by Ikea pending full planning permission for a store - if Ikea can't be bothered to do anything with the land in the meantime, at least someone else is.
