Not sure I have a lot of sympathy for his time out of the game. Part of me feels he doesn't have his whole heart in it anymore. He doesn't come across as the deluded type (i.e. Pardew) so realistically what PL job was he expecting? He was never going to get a mid table job as managers of teams in that sort of position are unlikely to sack their manager unless it's one of the big clubs in which case he still wouldn't get it. So a relegation threatened club was the best offer he would have got which I'm sure he knows and makes me question why he continues to say this.
I also think many chairmen have steered well clear of him because of what happened with that tribunal and somewhat understandably as well. Maybe he really hasn't had many offers at all to even turn down but obviously he can't come out and say that.0 -
I don't blame him for not taking the Wolves job. They were almost certain to go down and he wanted a deal for the following season rather just a 4 month rescue attempt. Wolves should have agreed, they were as good as down anyway, but he would have given them a chance. If they'd stayed up they'd have got a proven mid-table prem manager who could achieve decent results with a small budget. If they'd gone down they'd have got a manager who had won promotion twice, again without spending massive amounts.JessieAddick said:

Like scores of English managers before him, Curbishley knows he may have to look to the Football League for a route back into the game. After helping Kit Symons at Fulham last year in an ‘advisory’ role which seems in vogue these days, could an emotional return to Charlton one day materialise?

Instead they refused to give him any guarantees about the next season and he walked away. I'm sure he regrets that with hindsight, but I'd argue it was the right decision at the time.6 -

No offence, but I don't want to see a stand named after Al. Gates, yes; boardroom or meeting room, yes; entertainment suite, yes. But not a stand. I think you should have won a major trophy and/or be a one-club man to get a stand named after you. Jimmy Seed has earned his, but arguably if Curbs was so honoured there'd be a good case for a Lennie Lawrence stand as well. Curbishleys tenure stands up to any analysis, and his sheer longevity here is very impressive indeed, even if that very same longevity contributed to his departure.0

With Curbs, the people who wanted more didn't realise how good we had it. It is human nature to want more, but had he stayed, kept the club stable, and the PL TV money grew and grew, perhaps by now we would have reached target 40,000 and be an established club getting great attendances. Perhaps the level of Sunderland attendance-wise, but with the stability of a Stoke or a Southampton. How we'd all take that now...5

Alan Curbishley took us to the Premier League twice, including overseeing the Wembley 98 final and brought some of the all time greats like Kinsella, Mendonca and Powell to the club.Stig said:

He is the one person everyone seems to bring up whenever a neutral gets talking about Charlton.
We aren't the sort of club that wins major trophies. Curbishley is Mr Charlton, and in this day and age it seems impossible that anyone will manage us for 15 years again.
Put it this way - had it not been for Curbs, half of the stands in our stadium would probably be half in size anyway!5 -

The sofa aside , Curbs was one of the best things to have happened to Charlton in the last 60 years.1

Curbs effectively built the North Stand Upper with what he did for us, it should be named after him.
Lennie is equally deserving of some kind of recognition as well, without what he did we may have gone under6 -

We may have acted too hastily last season. Just seen that Karel Fraeye's six-forward no midfield tactic is working at his latest club, Lommel United, who beat the mighty Lutlommel 15-0 in a pre-season friendly.
