Roger Johnson was right about you.golfaddick said:not been to either game so far this season so will reserve judgement until after Saturday..........
however , I will say that this is the lowest I have ever felt supporting this club , There are so may things wrong about the team I dont know where to start- lack of creativity, no squad depth, too many youngsters/too many aging players ( how many players in their prime do we have, ie between the ages of 25-30)
I learnt something new this week....in fact, 2.
Firstly I have lived on the s/r London & Kent border all my life (Bexley, Dartford,Gravesend,....) and have spent many years commuting into London. On Monday I had to see a client in E London. Stratford to be precise. Usually I drive to appts but this time I thought I would try the train. couldn't believe it. it took just 11 mins to get there from Ebbsfleet !! it takes that long to get to Dartford from nearby Gravesend ffs
that then led to the second point........the Olympic park - mores specifically, West Ham,. Couldn't believe how close it was to the station I have a premiership ground virtually on my doorstep - no parking problems, no train delays
and (I would expect) plenty of available tickets.
sorry chaps,,,,I know where I will be going if we sink any lower.3 -
The only good thing about last night was it was a new ground. We might not be playing them next season as they could they could get promoted.
Think the club may have to cancel August goal of the month.
As @TelMc32 said on the way out a while back that result would have pissed him off for ages, now it does even bother him, I feel the same way.
A good run back and in Chiselhurst at 00.15, so at 2 hours 25 mins, my cup run was longer than the club's.5 -
Was t 'stool' referred to at the post match interview Roger Johnson?2

What does this mean from Slade;
Q: Onto Saturday, how important is it that the fans are behind you?
RS: "Massive, we want to make it into a real fortress, but at the minute we are where we are, but there are facts that don’t help us."

The facts are we are shit from top to bottom. So fair point 'that don't help us'.Rob7Lee said:What does this mean from Slade;

I'm sure you'll have a different manager by then and a more optimistic outlook.The Organiser said:Absolutely dreading the Millwall games already and I mean more than usual.

Three things.
First, arrival at the ground, the sign outside the ground said "next match Charlton Athletic" and the date. On leaving it said "Doncaster Rovers" and a new date. You see Meire, attention to detail, it's how to run a club.
Second, didn't go to Bury so can't compare but that wasn't all that bad, compact, good work ethic. But no cutting edge. Bit like watching a development squad match. If we can keep that team together we should avoid relegation*.
Third, comments on the players: fair play to Rudd, talking with the fans, midfield so, so slow, Croft woeful passing, some of the team are so small they helped Munns to blend in.
* From League Two, next season.2 -

To be fair, if Louis had asked Curbs those questions in this situation he'd have got a similar response. Curbs was never slow to bite back at any question that he felt implied criticism or put him under any pressure. It's what managers do to make it difficult for reporters to ask hard questions in public and why many don't bother. Fair play to Louis though. He was spot on.
What we should take from that is that behind the veneer of calm, Slade is feeling the pressure, which is no surprise.

they scored 1 we scored none

Rudd was quite involved in taking to fans behind the goal after the game. He seems a good character.7

I'd try to get the fans on my side if i had to spend 45 minutes in front of themAirman Brown said:Rudd was quite involved in taking to fans behind the goal after the game. He seems a good character.

Was pretty rough listening to it and following the match thread last night. But woken up with a new vigour.
Bring on Saturday and the first opportunity to shout loudly at the board room window in a while. I have missed this, I have a lot of pent up anger to release!
These people will never win! No matter how long it takes or how painful it is we will remove them from out club! There is no outcome possible where they win this war.
They may own the football club on paper but without the support of the fans that paper isn't worth wiping your arse with.
Charlton fans will never stop until we have removed this poison from our club and we will never, ever support them. They will fail, they will leave and we will win this war.7 -
I can't help but feel aside from the non playing issues of RD/KM there are still serious issues in the changing room/coaching. I'm starting to think that those who have been here the last year or two will never be the same again,
On paper, out 1st 11 even with s couple of youngsters should have been able to turn over Cheltenham quite easily. Was it 14 players they had?
Premier league keeper, experienced centre half alongside a good prospect. Experienced full backs for this level. Centre mids with more experience than the whole of the opposition team. A quality right winger at this level, a fantastic young left winger that premier league clubs are following. A top scoring centre forward and a youngster.
When you add in who wasn't playing but probably will on Saturday, Pearce, Novak, Solly then that team should be able to control the game and pick up 3 points easily against Northampton.
Any manager worth his salt would have that 11 playing as a team, set up correctly and walk a 3-0 win but I fear it'll be much of the same. Fear, panic, poor quality, no team spirit, no support of each other........ If we do better than a 1-1 draw I'll be amazed.
We can blame the owners and god knows they are to blame, we can ridicule the outgoing and incomings but ultimately Slade has an 11 for Saturday capable of an easy win, we won't though as he so far seems incapable of jelling the players together, clear instructions and getting them playing as one. Powell didn't have a much better 1st 11 when we won the league, but he instilled that team spirit, belief and know how.
This is going to be a very long and painful season........8 -
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Curbs was ever in the situation that Brussels finds himself.Airman Brown said:To be fair, if Louis had asked Curbs those questions in this situation he'd have got a similar response. Sadly, I'm fairly sure we are there already...Blucher said:
As others have emphasised, the core problem with the team is in central midfield, where we are one-paced, unable to run with the ball and completely lacking in any creativity. To compound matters, Jacko and Crofts were not even effective in closing down the opposition, with a number of Cheltenham players running straight through us and directly at our back four with impunity. Crofts had a better second half but his distribution in the early part of the game was bloody awful. This key area of the team needs to be addressed as an absolute priority or we are very soon going to find ourselves in the lower reaches of League 1, looking over our shoulders.0 -

Was at the game last night. Holmes fox rudd were the stand out players again. This might offend some people. Lookman is a very skillful player but greedy trys to many tricks and doesn't pass.Ajose is a lightweight fairy. Johnson got a bit of stick .but at the back he did help the new lads who were out of postion and good header of the ball. Rudd showed passion and frustration. What he said was please don't worry we will come good .we have some new players and we just need to gel. He showed he really cared a bit like Henderson. Jackson looked well off the pace last night maybe use him as a super sub. If you thought last season was bad this is going to be a whole lot worse. Imagine playing Northwich Victoria every week and losing . After spending £100s of pounds in the last two games and even seeing a goal. We need a striker ASAP. Good luck to all of you who go on Saturday.5

Charlton, team of the future...every year0

I really hope Cheltenham get promoted this season. Because I don't fancy our chances against them in the league next season.2

Whats the expression? Oh yes, 'I'll drive you to the station myself".
Typical Premiership Johnny come lately fan.2 -
because it's just dwning on him that his reputation is at risk being at Charlton. When a team finishes the league on -XX goals and regularly loses games, people will judge the keeper, whether he is half decent or not!Airman Brown said:Rudd was quite involved in taking to fans behind the goal after the game. A good team needs a good spine, not to be cheap and cheerful on a key part and hope that will work. We have a good keeper, good centre backs (minus that plod rojo), decent strikeforce.....but if you have zero energy or creativity in the middle then they are collectively as bad as the weakest point.
Even if you can't get hold of a very creative midfielder, at least get some legs and energy in there to at least link up the different parts of the pitch with a 10 yard pass rather than a long ball.
We got beat and what is worse is that I really don't care. We will continue to get beat until we don't have the creativity and movement of scarecrows in the middle.
We are obviously clueless at the top and extremely limited on the pitch. The result is, and always will be, a steaming pile of shit.5 -

Which part of "there are so may things wrong about the team I dont know where to start- lack of creativity, no squad depth, too many youngsters/too many aging players ( how many players in their prime do we have, ie between the ages of 25-30)" is reserving judgment until after Saturday?golfaddick said:not been to either game so far this season so will reserve judgement until after Saturday..........

It may seem funny at times to those looking in, myself included, but the truth of the matter is that a decent family run club is being torn apart for no justifiable reason.
If it can happen to Charlton then it can happen to pretty much anyone which is why it's in the best interests of every fan in the football league for your owner to depart sharpish.30 -
