To go or not to go? - that is the question

So here we go - first home game of the season THE FIRST BLOODY GAME FOR F**K SAKE and I am already wanting to go! It's my club, my bloody Valley and what I always do on Saturdays. So what the hell do I do? If I go it feels like I'm giving in so bloody soon. Watching football used to be so simple....

Why not pick up one of the free tickets from CARD in The White Swan and go? That way, you haven't given RD any money and can support the team and not the regime!11
-
I didn't renew also and it's going to hurt a bit as it will be the first time since 1986/7 that I've not had a season ticket.
I was offered a ticket for the game tomorrow but I turned it down as I'm going to lunch with a friend.I went to both Bury and Cheltenham games and will try to do a few more aways.
The whole club looks like it's about to die..these arseholes have to go and they have to go ASAP!!!

Don't give in Arsen, we need the Valley to be as empty and soulless as possible. As much as it hurts I am hoping for a crowd of under 7k tomorrow and a home defeat.4
-
I'll be doing something else. Don't know what yet.1
-
I'd say go. Cheer the team and spend as little as possible. Join the protests but don't let Roland and his crackpot team spoil your love of our club. Stop going and it's very easy to find other things to fill up your weekend. It might not be as easy as you think to get back the fire in your belly.11

Im going, looking forward to it and seeing some of the new signings. BUT I will join in all protest songs that hopefully will be sung during the game.5
-
I agree with SHG. If you want to go, then go. It's your club, not theirs. Join in with any protests before and after, and don't spend any money in the ground - that's what I'll be doing, anyway. I think this is a decision that most of us on here have wrestled with at some point, and ultimately it comes down to personal choice. Do what feels right for you.ShootersHillGuru said:I'd say go. I'm going.0

Go - don't let them deny you the pleasure (which may or may not last beyond 3pm) of the first home game of the season. This is our club.3
-
Go. Get a free ticket if you can but go anyway. support the team not the regime.1

Got free tickets because of the netting at the Burnley game. Even so I am torn as I want to see the team and how things are panning out, but I think it will be a bit toxic as well and I hate these Belgian cockwombles. If I don't go I will endeavour to get the tickets to the White Swan.1

'Belgian cockwombles ' , be careful you will be receiving a letter from Mr Eagles !!7

This is the first time in many years, that I won't be going to the first home game of the season.
apathy, and to be honest, I really can't be bothered.
how sad that it has come to this.3 -
Not going to first opening home game since season 1972 (having left London in 1969) - but as Katrien Meire so kindly puts it "its my choice."
Yes, it is.
My choice not the be at The Valley thus ending a tradition stretching back over 40 years but you know what Katrien - you have made the 'choice' easy for me.
Having said that, I wish nothing but the best to those who are going and I hope you get to see our first victory of the season.

Can't see why you'd want us to lose. A low crowd yes. But losing, I can't understand it.eaststandmike said:Don't give in Arsen, we need the Valley to be as empty and soulless as possible. As much as it hurts I am hoping for a crowd of under 7k tomorrow and a home defeat.

My thoughts too - I have a ticket although I'm beginning to question my sanity - may not be many of us there but those that are should be very vocal in our protests.ShootersHillGuru said:I'd say go. As Katrien said ' we have to accept how the owner runs the club ' , well I don't so will be in the Rose of Denmark for a drink and that's it.1

Went to the ground with my Grandson yesterday (sorry but had to buy a CAFC tie for my Dads funeral) and was sorely tempted to go and buy four tickets for tomorrow but didn't. Have not renewed season tickets and it hurts like hell that I can even consider not going to the first home game of the season for the first time that I can remember in 50 years of supporting the club. But I can, and frankly it makes me sad that I can. No longer the Charlton I know and love and feel that staying away is the best chance of "getting our Charlton back". I personally don't think that RD and KM are bad people just totally inept when it comes to running an English Football Club. Just cannot fathom out what their long term aim is. Their transfer dealings have just been beyond stupid. The latest example being paying an undisclosed fee (believed to be 7 figures) for a centre half (Pearce) who is IMPO no better than one we released on a free (Morrison) and then pay over £200,000 for a forward playing in Scotland who I believe will have less ability that one we have loaned to a Scottish club and are apparently still paying a large percentage of his wages(Magennis and Watt). Lets hope change comes sooner rather than later or it may be that CAFC is beyond saving.14

Refused to renew. Season ticket holding mate cannot go and has given me his ticket so I am going to go to join the CARD protest and to have a look at the new signings simply so that I can have an idea in my head of what they actually look like as I read the vitriol on future match threads and post match views.4

Arsenetatters, dear friend.
I totally understand your predicament but knowing you love this cub as much as I do, PLEASE don't let "them" spoil what has been a wonderful habit over the years. It may not be as enjoyable as in past seasons; you may struggle to recognise our players & you may find it more difficult to "bond" with them ( voice of experience )
BUT this is YOUR club .
Being at The Valley when the lads in the shirt run out is what you do.
Don't let the b*ggers stop what is now a bitter sweet experience but will, hopefully one day soon, revert to a being good one.
Let CARD lead all of us like minded supporters forward together & let your voice be heard both inside & outside the ground.
Look forward to seeing your smiling face ( well, before ko!) tomorrow.

I assume (but only assume) that all Charlton supporters love their club. I do, but shan't pay to attend another game until the club is sold.Fanny Fanackapan said:Arsenetatters, dear friend.

It's a personal choice
I've bought a ticket in my usual seat for tomorrow (a painful process as the online system isn't generating any emails), as I want to catch up with the people I know at the ground, and I know the person next to me has renewed.
I doubt I'll go on Tuesday, when the Valley will be really empty0 -
It's alright, the ticket office was closed anyway. It's not like they needed to sell you a ticket, as there are hordes of people signing up for online accounts to come and see third division football in an echoey, empty ground.superdulvertonred said:Went to the ground with my Grandson yesterday (sorry but had to buy a CAFC tie for my Dads funeral) and was sorely tempted to go and buy four tickets for tomorrow but didn't.

The club are offering an alternative to watching the game by providing a Curry Night package in the hospitality lounge!killerandflash said:It's a personal choice

Add me to the list of non-attenders for the opening home game for many years. This and the last home games are the two that I almost always get to. My missus is still recovering from major surgery and although she would be fine and be happy for me to be out all day I'd rather spend the day looking after her currently.
I could go and feel that I should go, just like every other year for yonks and I will almost certainly be there for Bolton but this lot are making it easier and easier not to make the effort4 -
Spend nothing, don't give this vermin anything. After 51 years of support I want to go but i won't because i believe it's the right thing to do.ShootersHillGuru said:I'd say go. If the ticket is free, then go.Arsenetatters said:I didn't renew. No more home games for me until they go - except for protests. Decided to go to more aways games and follow non-league. It was a dreadful game at Bury but it still felt 'right' to go. Saturdays back to normal.

For me I'd prefer we just all stayed away.
Let Meire keep her 2% of fans that are not protesting.
I'd love and be pained to see it but imagine the news coverage of a near empty stadium, bar away fans.

Only 48 years supporting but cannot remember last time I missed 1st day. Can't see many away games that interest me, but won't order through the club as I live too far away to collect, but I will attend car park protests when they restart.
Disappointed to hear so many people attending or getting STs. Only way to get them out is an empty Valley.6 -
I'm going, reduced price tickets via a friend, but I'm there supporting my team.8
