Improved and more frequent communication with fans has certainly happened.
A blackmail letter trying to gag fans comments on social media was a great start.

One letter to one fan which was about his recorded foul and abusive language in the ground as well as on social media. He apologised about the first and deleted the latter.

I would have said a fair result as he got his season ticket without an order being issued.
  • It's like we're being run by Apprentice contestants, isn't it?

    Sir Alan Sugar................

“I’m trying to find something here but you’re meant to be a lawyer – and you negotiated a deal which gave them how much and for how long? My old nan could’ve gotta betta deal than that and she’s dead”.

"Our aim for this season is to launch a promotion challenge"

Isn't that what every team does at the start of the season? It doesn't actually say that the aim is promotion. The aim of a club like Charlton must be promotion not to just launch a challenge for promotion.

If a top PR firm was involved in the latest SMT letter, then they need a new copywriter. Unless, of course, they're really, really clever and decided that Belgian-inspired pigeon English would appear more authentic!

But why only one letter to one fan ?
The letter didn't mention foul or abusive comments." Inflammatory, derogatory and "not particularly constructive" we're the terms used.
I think the fact that it's attracted almost total condemnation from the football world says more than a few Charlton fans who support the club on this matter.

Highlights the fact that the 'media have said good things about their change in directions' - highlights the fact that she just wants a good image in public (remember the Google clean up) rather than what her own fans/customers think of her!

New era used again for the umpteenth time - I give the new era a few months!
Highlights a change in direction by giving Crofts and foley as an example - but we had naff free transfers of aging last times in the last "eras" (plural) under this regime!

They mention New Era so frequently, I was convinced they be our new shirt sponsors.

  • What's this senior management team bollocks

    Do we have a

    CEO
    Chairman

You not only lie and aggravate everyone except stupid sue parkes but your now so cowardly and gutless that you hide behind a group name

Pathetic and if you could sum Murrays last few years that would be it, a pathetic cowardly liar shit on the people who supported him in the boardroom and shit on every single one of the fans who once thought he was the spine of the club

What happened to you man what Fucking happened when did you turn into this shadow of who you portrayed yourself to be, you are not a fool you are a successful business man who could never have reached the position you did without having a spine and services of bollox,

Notice the subtle change in ambition though...

The relegation statement said something like we're rebuilding the squad to challenge.

This one reads we're building the most competitive squad within our budget.

Surely every club is trying to do that!

Our aim for this season is to launch a promotion challenge. Shame it isn't to get promotion! Doesn't fill me with any confidence.
Not that I ever believe anything they ever say anymore. You get lied to a hundred times and then are expected to believe the next thing they say.
Even if by some fluke we do get promoted I would still want them out as I have no trust whatsoever in them.
  • Promotion from lge 1can't be seen as progress or a progressive mgmt performance,

Its a plaster over a cut that needs stitches a cut that was self administered by a clueless mgmt team

Did I read correctly (Voice) that big Tone gave instructions to stewards to look players in the eye to instill confidence in them when they go on the pitch?

The letter makes no reference to his previous behaviour in the ground at all. It is entirely about his comments online.

It's written by Meire, and then edited by someone else. The SMT only has one person!

I loved the bit where she says we want to improve communication again, I was actually thinking, hang on is she about to say something she is going to do about it? No, just says we will attempt to "engage with fans like never before"

Such a weird sentence. Weird individual.

I was a copy writer/editor for many years, still am sometimes. If someone gave that to me to publish I'd send it back as "reading like an outline of topics you'd like to cover, but not actually saying anything."

It's not the worst, it just...doesn't say anything.

Still, happy they've started employing people who work in PR (again)! The off the cuff statements were definitely worse!

That's hilarious. Forget what they've spent all week on the training ground doing and what Slade has just told them in the changing room, as long as big Errol from Plumstead looks them in the eye as they run out, we'll be a match for anyone.

Mogodon, NLA & SD have said it all.

What is this mindset that persists with this committee group branded communication? It engages nobody because it says nothing. It reads like the order of service for a Sunday morning church service.

If as an executive you wish to communicate put a bloody name to it. It does not come anymore basic. It is leadership 101. Show accountability, show personal commitment to the iniatives, that's how you make things happen, that's how create momentum, that's how you actually bring people with you to ensure things are delivered.

In heavens name if you want to talk to your customers then talk to them and stop hiding behind anybody & everybody else and meaningless corporate speak.

Every meeting, every communication has to be "mob handed".

Meire has been CEO for nearly 32 months when is she going to learn the basic principles of leadership, of accountability, of communicating what you are trying to achieve, defining your targets, how she is going to achieve them and in what timeline?

These latest communications have been written as if in some time warp. We have simply stepped back in time. This endless focus on process without defining what the process is supposed to achieve is meaningless. It is tick box management.

D'ont talk about talking to people just pigging do it.

As a CEO you have to set an agenda for your SMT to deliver to, which then sets the basis of discussions with your customer base, which then influences how you meet your targets.

If you want to involve your Senior Management Team then sign it Katrien Meire for and on behalf of the Senior Management Team. Otherwise it reads as corporate bullshit and poorly constructed and poorly worded corporate bullshit at that.

It is profoundly second rate. It really is so depressing this woman is no further forward than when she started.

The club can never progress when the head of our business is so ill equipped to do the job in comparison with the vast majority of our competitors.

    This is truly desperate stuff.

1.45pm she turned up yesterday - I think her habit of turning up 4/5 hours after the staff on matchdays says everything about her attitude to leadership and management - which is basically to leave it to other people (who in turn aren't up to it). Sets no example, provides no oversight and offers no encouragement or insight, because she is effectively and literally absent. And she is able to do this because she is unaccountable to anyone on site at games. Previous chief execs would have been sacked for it.
But at least she has a nice Range rover out of it

When Katrien turned up with that pathetic power point display at the meeting last November it revealed how shallow her thinking is.
They still think the issue is communicating with fans with their meet the fans and evening with Slade guff. 90% of the interviews and stuff are predictable cliché which make no difference.
They say judge us on what we do however.
What they have done is start the season weak and unprepared, lost pathetically at Bury and Cheltenham, turned up late for work yesterday, ensuring no programmes were on sale, played a midfield that didn't work, and dropped two home points in front of a pretty listless and empty stadium.
I figured that stuff out by myself without the need for improved communication. Indeed the gagging order for season ticket development is yet another action from the club to judge them on, and I judge that to be vindictive and pathetic, yet pretty revealing about what lies at the sick heart of this regime.

  • I wonder how embarrassing for them this will be, come the end of the season.

They don't do embarrassment. Lies and failure wash over them and they think they can con us over and over again with empty words. Nothing will change until they go.
