Next season the PL is changing from 5 to 7 subs. Anyone know if it also going to happen in the football league?

    garbage, there should be three... part of the manager's tactical ability in the old days was to choose the select few who would be there to change things on the pitch

    now accounting for injuries, suspensions, young players, you've got most of the rest of the squad on there

    Haven't heard anything. But this is the real reason they proposed playing games abroad - a ridiculous smokescreen for the real evil about to be introduced. Another victory for the big boys against the interests of football in general!

    I'm sure that like a good little lapdog, wherever the Premiership goes the Championship will follow. If not now, sometime soon.

    7 subs is kinda silly. For teams lower down the leagues it will just increase there already stretched expenditure for away games if its mandatory. Football has gone mad.....its programs like the one on ITV last night showing Footballers (amongst others) living ridiculous fat cat lifestyles. Its no wonder the fans expectations are so high when the players are grossly, and I mean really grossly overpaid. There has to be a better way of spreading the wealth down the leagues

    Spot on Tel, stupid decision.
    If they want to tinker they could allow a player subbed off to be subbed back on - it counts as one of the three of course.

    The rule change is that the manager can make a choice from seven subs on the bench and not five as at present, but only three can play.

    I've no idea if this will extend to the League as well as the Premiership.

    i know that only three can play still BFR! my point was in the olden days of only three on the bench you had to be incredibly selective of what mix of qualities you want on there to suit certain circumstances... now every tom dick and harry gets put on there... look at bolton having 2 keepers on the bench!

    Should go back to one sub. That was enough.

    Anyone know who was the first Charlton player to be subbed off in a league game?

    Do you have to have the required amount of subs or is it optional? I'm sure i've seen instances where a player has been injured in a warm up and a team has gone with less subs than the usual amount.

    Do you have to have the required amount of subs or is it optional? I'm sure i've seen instances where a player has been injured in a warm up and a team has gone with less subs than the usual amount.

    Not sure. Most likely you would be fined or something silly for not fielding a full side if you turned up without the full number but if it was an accident in the warm they usually throw in another player who goes on to score a last minute winner with an overhead kick (or maybe that is just in comics)

    Don't have a problem with it myself. It gives the chance for clubs, especially in the lower leagues to field some youngsters on the bench.

    I beleive its going to make the availability of youngsters from bigger clubs who clubs like ourselves often look at much less available. Granted we messed up this season but they've proved successes in the past. In the grand old scheme of things its just another way of helping out the top 4. They will have 7 world class subs to chose from, 2 extra players a week that are a little less pissed off etc.
