Bands that you weren't expecting much from...

but when you get around to seeing them, they blew you away.

Inspired by Wolf Alice's set in Margate last night. Amazing energy and all the songs just clicked, best band I've seen in a long time.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Once went to see Dinosaur Jr. in Brighton, think it was around 2009, I asked my mate who got us the tickets if there was a support band, "I dunno" was his response. There was, and they were fantastic, better than Dinosaur Jr.. No one had listened to what their name was so I had to go online when I got home to find out who they were. Dead Confederate, they became my favourite band for the next few years as well.

Yes, Wolf Alice are a class act. They performed 'You're a Germ' on Jools Holland's muso programme a while ago and they were startlingly good.
I went to see Ted Milton's three-piece band Blurt at The Birds Nest in Deptford last year and they were superb. Uncategorisable, but a sort of Captain Beefheart meets Public Image Limited. Unsettling music but hugely enjoyable.

I only knew whipping Piccadilly, and didn't like it. Went with a mate who had a spare... Possibly one of the best gigs I've been to
