@Smudge ^ because, if my history is right we bought one of the most successful UK teams and re-branded them to Charlton before shafting them. Not this ownership/regime, I am not blaming them but we acted pretty disgracefully if my memory serves correctly.2

That was my understanding too; we pretty much disbanded them on the same day they managed to play in an FA Cup final, as the mens side had been relegated so we needed to make cutbacks. Isnt this entire thread about the poor treatment of a member of the womens team, and subsequently the Charltons womens team in general? Isnt that part of the rights / wrongs of womens football then?

This thread is about trying to raise funds for a player of the Charlton's womens team that needs an operation that is to be self funded. There are a hell of a lot of well meaning people contributing to this thread and contributing to her fundraising.
It is a positive thread that it would be nice not to stray into an 'I've got no interest in women's football' debate. Now if people want to discuss the rights / wrongs of women's football, fire away, please start a new thread on it. But (for once) it would be nice if a thread can stay on topic to its intention, or how it has matured.

On more important matters, I've gotten I think three notifications from Gemma in the 24 hours and she seems absolutely blown away. Incredibly happy for her, but it's also scary to think that this is only the beginning of a long road to recovery.2 -

I sympathise with her situation. From my experience the NHS is not that good at dealing with sporting injuries and I've had to spend a small fortune of private physio treatment.Rob7Lee said:

A while ago now, but I was advised not to get a knee op because I wouldn't play again after the NHS had butchered me. I was able to struggle on until I was 35 without one although I had to manage the pain etc... Arthritis in both knees now for some reason, but at least I have memories of playing. I got injured at 21. I don't know of any players I played with over the years who had ops who were able to carry on. It isn't like professionals who get the best, you have to go private or manage the injury.Missed It said:
