    Anyone know a reliable plumber? Tried all usual methods to no avail. Standing water in kitchen sink. Last time the plumber used a plumbers snake...I use sink strainers, the washing machine waste goes same way as sink waste I believe??

    Get down to a plumbers merchants and buy a bottle of Melt. This stuff clears most if not all blockages and will save you money on a plumber coming out. Read the instructions carefully, it is acid.

    Also depends on the problem but can either be saved by one shot (basically acid) or completely annoy the plumber who has to deal not only with the problem but also the fact some idiot has made the waste water corrosive.

    Empty the sink first with a cup etc, you need to get the Melt down the plug hole

    Not in my experience but they might charge you more if you've made the job much harder for them.

    Advice above about emptying out all the surplus water so you can get the acid down a limited volume so it has more effect, very sound.

    I'd also consider looking at turning off the water, personally disconnecting the pipes through into the waste and letting that into a bowl, get as close to the blockage as you can by yourself.

    So you should be able to see the join the washing machine waste comes into the main waste, disconnect that and see if the blockage is in that pipe. Sounds unlikely as that should be upstream and shouldn't cause the sink to back up.

    Remember to reconnect that pipe.

    It's not saniflo outlet is it? Saniflo is a different game with tiny pipes after a macherator and pump used in flats without the required drop for real plumbing to work. I have one like that and it's cost me a fortune over the years.

    Bromley is outside my normal plumbers easy ranges sorry.

    I live in Bromley and had my bathroom re-done two years ago. The bloke that did it caused a leak through the ceiling to our hallway below mid-job. Now 2 years later the sink is wobbly, the shower does not work very well, the ventilator has stopped working and the filler on the bath has fallen throu causing a leak into the hallway below. He is ignoring our calls/messages to come back and fix it,

    Not good for waste pipework, whether it's plastic or copper, as well as being environmentally bad.

    So did you use Melt and do you still have a sink ?

    melt/one shot/plunge power are all different names for the drain clearing acid, its fine to use on plastic waste pipes, if you do spill some on the sink it will tarnish the steel but using baby oil will get rid of it.

    I agree, do not put this into a blocked external drain unless you know what you are doing.

    The acid will get diluted by the volume of water and will have no effect.

    If the block is internal or in pipes less than 2 inch diameter, it will normally burn through the blockage and can then be washed through with clean water.

    Not green.

    Unless maybe you pour an equal amount of vinegar down the drain :)

    Will tarnish stainless steel fittings if you put it on them.

    Why? That is what it is meant for. It does not harm plastic, it is sold in plastic bottles.

    Haven't used melt, although I really want to, don't wanna make it worse if it doesn't do the job. I'm hopeful to speak to plumber(s) tomorrow and hopefully they can pop over Friday evening or Saturday morning!

    Ok, so have you identified where the blockage is? I wouldn't get a plumber over until you have some idea.

    You could always get under the sink and take the trap apart and clear it yourself, it is probably nothing worse than a blocked "U" bend.

    Right, company came in and used some sort of hoover/jet which fixed the issue for couple of weeks.

    Today I noticed, waste water sitting in washing machine. Drained it, which straight away cone up through sink, and sink is no longer draining at all?!?!

    Could there be a blockage beyond my p trap, and pipes which lead to the sewer stack?? Note my toilet, bath, bathroom sink doesn't have any drainage issues, nor waste water coming up, and that's next door to my kitchen....

    Any ideas?

    U bend under sink wasn't blocked at all, pipes were cleaned using the hoover/jet thing...

    Is there a manhole cover you can lift, to see if there is an outside blockage ?

    I have 2 manhole covers, one in the back garden and one on the driveway.

    @Covered End I'm on the third floor (top floor) in flats, not sure where all the Pipes lead to, may have to have a look around!

    Well have you asked all of your neighbours, if they have any issues ?

    If they have no problems I don't see how it is likely to be an outside drain.

    Also, if you live in a flat isn't this for the freeholder to sort out ?
