They only print local news - all jungle fires and tiger attacks, also the sport coverage is poor.7

shame on me what a div , i couldn't work out what he meant by repeating it once then twice ... i ,as usual, went for the double entendre route cos it was Mehmet8

Got one at home, paid the pre-order price which I believe was £50 off. For the price alone it's a decent speaker for music in the living room if you have Spotify or Amazon Music, but to get the full value I'd say it depends on what other "smart" devices you have in your house.
I've got some lights & sockets which it has connected to without any issues and despite it making me incredibly lazy, it's fairly useful for things like dimming the lights, switching a lamp on / off, etc. Hopefully it won't be long until they sort out "if this then that" controls so I can connect it up to my harmony remote so I can control the TV, surround sound, etc.
There is a hell of a lot it can do outside of this and personally not scratched the surface with it's other stuff, but has been worthwhile for me so far.

Yes, we got one this week. A bit of a toy just now - what's the time, what's ten plus ten, what will the temperature be tomorrow, etc. Lovely having it switch from radio four to TMS without having to move a finger this morning! My wife is sorting out all the extras, and telling me what it can now do with more links added each evening so far...sadly we don't have smart lights, heating, etc, as it would have been good to get it to control those. Only poor thing so far is that it doesn't recognise Charlton yet so can't tell me how badly we are doing this season (though it does know we are a league 1 football club). The best thing is its miaow conversations with our cat!0

Try swearing at it.
It says "That's not a nice thing to say"1 -
This is going to be another of those threads that may as well be written in Flemish until about 2 years time for me when everyone else has moved on.
Are you saying Amazon will send someone around to turn the lights off???
;-)6 -
Will be purchasing one.0

That was the first thing I did the other night when my missus picked up her new car; it has some voice recognition gadgetry in it, "Ask it something?" she said...CostaFortune said:Try swearing at it.

I sat there for a few seconds wondering what I should ask her car, before blurting out "Go f*ck yourself.".4 -
Dave Mehmet, one of these is right up your street, it can sign you into Pornhub whilst turning the TV over to Babestation while leaving your hands free for................

It is possible, but not without additional equipment.LargeAddick said:

They tested it on TV today. The presenter shouted at it twice to get the light turned on.
I can't see the benefit, as I only have to shout at the wife once

You shouldn't even have to ask. You need to train her better mate.Covered End said:They tested it on TV today. The presenter shouted at it twice to get the light turned on.

Anyone had any success linking echo to a harmony hub and controlling TV/AV Receiver etc...? Might treat myself.0
-
Yep, got it working but not natively at the moment. Logitech have recently added support for it, but only in the States. UK coming soon.SWEnglandAddick said:Anyone had any success linking echo to a harmony hub and controlling TV/AV Receiver etc...? Might treat myself.
Can be done though...I use an app on my phone called Yonomi which acts as a bridge between the Echo & Harmony Hub. You add the activities from Harmony to the app. Give it a name. Sync it to the Echo. Jobs a good'un.
Only allows you to run activities though. Volume, channels, pause, play, etc etc don't work.0 -
Yeah I downloaded Yonomi a couple days ago just to get a feel for it, seems pretty straight forward.
Think I'm going to go for it!0 -
I don't think Amazon have imparted all of their knowledge into this product. I asked it how do I avoid paying tax and it couldn't answer!7

Am searching for a 'Replacing a duvet cover' app.0

I got a dot, well two actually, and have paired them to my phone, headphones, wireless and sound bar, will get my nephew round to help getting it sorted for the telly.
If anybody asks what I want for Christmas I tell them a lightbulb (a voice commanded one).
I am far from technological but I must admit I love this bit of kit.
Does anybody know the best link up in order to ask it about the next train (proper Charlton) or bus?0 -
Regarding trains can't you do something in the app where you can put in your regular commute train and if you ask Alexa nicely she will check with National Rail to see if your train is running to schedule. That is what I understood. My Echo is in a box upstairs not to be opened until Xmas Day.0
