Got a faulty power supply, which makes my Android TV box turn on and off constantly.
I've got one of these, where you can adjust the amount of Volts, but will it work with the box?
Don't want to test it, without being certain, in case the box is fried.
The faulty power supply says 5V, but the other one I've got gives the option of 4.5V or 6V.
And what about the mA?

(Can't upload the images directly here for some reason)

Can I use this one?

  • Just google what you need and there will be someone on eBay selling one just like it.

I've bought a few of these kind of adaptors for guitar pedals and many have been poor quality but I've had success with this company:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?merchant=A3EZGU23MR6XT3&fallThrough=1

I've not been through their amazon shop but they may well sell the exact one you are looking for and chances are if you email they they will even look for you.

The issue is that I'll need the power supply by Saturday (ideally).
The box is not for me (setting it up for wifey's old man) and would be good if he can catch the All Blacks Sunday morning here in NZ vs France.
  • I suspect you probably need to take yourself to a branch of Maplin then, but expect to pay half the price of the box for the power supply.

You could always buy one then take it back on Monday and say that it didn't work and order a cheaper one online in the meantime.

Before I did any of that though I think I'd be tempted to try the box in another socket and on another TV. I have no idea if that will help but it's easy to do and might save yourself some effort.

Are you sure that it's the power supply and not the box itself?

Yep, I did try another socket earlier today. Same issue.
I've got another Android box and I've used the power supply from this box. The new Android box worked with no issues, so it can only be the power supply.
  • You need to be careful as the end of the charger lead that goes into your box has a positive and negative. Some pins are pos on the outside and neg on the inside and some are the other way round. You need to know what yours is!

Yeah this is the thing to watch, you don't need to worry about the current (mA) as it will only draw what it needs and as long as you're not too far over the voltage it wants you'll get away with that too as there will be some protection.

    Yep, that's the one.
Only problem is that I need it urgently and also that I need it with an Aussie plug.

Took the faulty power supply down to a tech shop.
Turned out it wasn't actually faulty...it just had the wrong sticker on.
It was in fact a 12V power supply and not 5V, as the sticker suggested.
