A mobile defensive midfielder isClem_Snide said:We might as well have played with 10 men at Colchester in the cup he was that bad. I was stunned at just how far he had fallen.
If he is costing nothing then there is no harm having him train with us, but is he really what we need? Another defensive midfielder is hardly a priority.

In his first spell with us he was absolute mustard, great with the ball at his feet and read the game brilliantly. He was crap when he came back, likely due to confidence after not playing regularly for 2/3 years. The old Poyet is still in there you don't just lose talent like that, it needs to be nurtured back out of him by a manager Ho put confidence back in him. I'd give him another chance without a doubt.1

KR likes to play a 4-2-3-1 so two holding midfielders.
Poyet and us have nothing to lose2 -
why the obsession over this one time average player ? .. if anyone believes that he is 'the answer' to our midfield lack of quality, they are WRONG, pure & simple2
-
I don't think we can hold last season performances against him. I think anyone would have struggled coming into a Fraeye side...0
-
If it's a confidence/ego issue then KR does seem to be the sort of manager to talk players up so could be perfect for Poyet.
But as someone else said, I'm not sure I'd want to waste a wage on him if he's not up for the fight.0 -
One time average Lol, first time round he was the best player on the pitch by a mile. Back to his best, poyet would walk into any team outside the top flightLincsaddick said:why the obsession over this one time average player ? .. if anyone believes that he is 'the answer' to our midfield lack of quality, they are WRONG, pure & simple

He's been crap since he left us. Couldn't even get in Powell's Huddersfield side. I'd take him back but he has a lot to prove.0

We need more central midfielders.1 -

He's still young enough to be able to go back to basics and start over again. It may take him a year or more, but if the talent is there, there is no reason why he shouldn't rediscover his best form.2

One time average player? Really? Half a season and was the player of the year and got s move to the premier league. I know it didn't work out and he has gone backwards but one time average players don't get that chance. I would definitely take him back againLincsaddick said:why the obsession over this one time average player ? .. if anyone believes that he is 'the answer' to our midfield lack of quality, they are WRONG, pure & simple

He had been playing regularly for MKD that season 20 appearances in the first half on 2015/16 before he joined usCovered_End_Lad said:In his first spell with us he was absolute mustard, great with the ball at his feet and read the game brilliantly. Why he was a complete flop for us last season is a mystery, especially after Riga took over who had been in charge for most of his "golden" spell0 -
Yeah been thinking that but not entirely sure how he's going to do that with our squad. More on that later.Swisdom said:KR likes to play a 4-2-3-1 so two holding midfielders.
Poyet and us have nothing to lose
I would argue Poyet is a defensive midfielder, a ball winner, whereas Crofts, Foley, and increasingly Jackson are all holding midfielders. They like to sit deeper in the midfield, but none of the three are natural ball winners. Terry Smith has commented all season that we could really use a ball winner in midfield, and in theory, should Poyet train well and get fit he *could* be that (not holding my breath).
Back to Robinson and the 4-2-3-1, for the second year in a row we've let a coach recruit players for a 4-4-2 (last year Luzon, this year Slade). Now that they've been sacked, we've brought in a manager who would rather play 4-2-3-1 (Riga, Robinson). Our problem, for the second year in a row, is not having a creative player to play as a number 10, or arguably enough player to have three central midfield players on at the same time. Freddie could maybe play there, but the thought of having Jackson and Crofts behind him is...underwhelming, and risks being overrun by mobile or pacey players. For all of my criticisms of the regime, my biggest remains the inability to get a Director of Football in to recruit players so that when one manager goes, we are not left with players completely ill-suited to anothers' strategy.2 -
Holmes could easily be the number 10. But then of course we lack wingers to make that work...SDAddick said:

I'm not sure our strikers are that suited to that formation either. Magennis would be decent at it but Ajose doesn't fit as the striker in that system and isn't suited to running from deep. Hanlan looks like the right sort of player but I'm not sure he's ready to lead the line on his own..1 -
He didn't want to be here so why should we want him here. Especially as he's now shite. Would be a waste of wages, which is what the regime seem to do best, but still.1
-
Certainly worth having him training with us for now. See what his attitude and desire is like and see if he can make an impact. If he looks good then contract till the end of the season.1
-
Could you play Ajose in the hole behind Magennis? I know he's played out wide etc in his career before0
-
I don't think so. He's a goal poacher. Needs to be in and around the box. He's not a Watt type player who likes to go deep to collect the ball or a lookman who is better running into space.sam3110 said:Could you play Ajose in the hole behind Magennis? Just my view.0
