36 years ago today I was walking down the stairs at home, my old man was listening to the wireless, he shouts out 'Shit! they've only gone and shot John Lennon'.

Same with me! Walking down the stairs (different ones to you ;-) ), to get ready for school and heard the news on the radio. Only thing we talked about at school for days (at the time the prefect common room pretty much had the Beatles 'red' and 'blue' albums on repeat)1

I heard it on my own little radio in the bedroom when I woke up. Seem to remember it was the Supporters' Club Christmas Disco that evening in the Valley Club portakabin - gave it rather a subdued atmosphere.1

I arrived in the USA for he first time and later heard this news. The Americans we met were also upset and many times said "Sorry to hear about your buddy". It was strange at first as I initially said that I've never met him but later excepted the sentiments.
