American Trilogy - Elvis
Although the tune is taken from a Southern/Confederate battle hymn, which name escapes me.
Its also the accecpted standard finishing song to any Elvis party/fans convention/festival, where all the fans line up in unison.
Played at big Ds wake last year at the Abbeymead, it raised the roof.0 -

I wish I was in Dixie. But it also has the Battle hymn of the Republic/John Browns Body (Glory, Glory) which was sung by the northern/federal soldiers and All my trials which is a folk/spiritual song popular in the civil rights movement.0 -

It's great. I love the bus ride they make you take to the Mansion which takes up across the street and about 20 yards up his drive to the front door.
Memphis is a great city.0 -
Its a fine place in parts, surprising how many antique shops they have, mostly our our antiques mind.
Did Elvis week in 2002 for the 25th Anniversary, did Humes High (missed Tupelo - hangover) got to meet and shake hands with Charlie Hodge & Joe Esposito, and did the Video concert in the pyramid with Lisa & Pricilla there, trip of a lifetime which I will never forget.
We did the tour twice to take it all in, great headphones, and quite emotional in the raquet court with the piano etc.0 -

Henry, are you an Elvis fan or did the trip out of interest?0

I was touring the states and if you are in Memphis you have to go to Graceland.
I love his early Sun stuff and the 68 comeback concert is great but wouldn't call myself a big "fan".
We do owe a big debt to him for merging black R & B/blues with white country/blue grass to create rock and roll as we know it. There was already a big cross over but no Elvis no rock and roll, no Beatles, Clash, Oasis, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye etc, etc and we'd all be listening to crooners and light musicals0 -
I was actually part of a 68 comeback tribute night the other week in Dartford, young lad Lee Jackson played the part, recreated the whole sit down jamming session, I was back up vocals and percussion, great experience, hoping to do more of it, Lee is the image of him at an early age.
