    Gutted to hear this. I seem to recall we re signed him and a played a blinder in a 0-0 draw at Brisbane Road that kept us up.
    Blood and thunder centre half who was great in the air. RIP big Dave.

    Yes,I publicly slated him despite the fact that he scored a goal himself, and was our only decent defender.

    I remember as a policeman after he retired he often looked after the away end at Fulham.

    He was on duty for the Cup tie in 1981 and our fans sang Ship, Ship,Shipperley.

    Dave Shipperley was around when I first started going to The Valley with my Dad.
    He was a wholehearted player and a great servant to the club.
    RIP Dave.

    A wholehearted player and an absolute giant of a man. Very effective in the opposition penalty area at corners, when he used to charge in from the corner of the box, brushing opponents aside and, more often than not, get a header in on goal or knock the ball down into the danger area for people like Arthur Horsfield. There was always a roar of anticipation from the Covered End as Ship lumbered up for the set play.

    He definitely became a policeman and I recall reading that he turned up in our dressing room at Craven Cottage when we were playing Fulham, as that was his local 'patch'.

    I really liked him, a great character. Yes he did turn up in the dressing room; made a beeline for Halesy and scared the life out of him!
