Tim Cahill a player who I always wanted to see in a red shirt despite the Millwall connections. Always a bit feisty but this is special http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/38867390

Of course. Any player can be yellow or red carded whether they are on the pitch or on the bench. Before, during and after the game.JoshAddick said:Is this allowed?

I went to my first A League game yesterday - Mariners v Adelaide in Canberra yesterday. Although it was the bottom two clubs playing in a dead rubber game in a neutral venue, the standard was a lot worse than I was expecting.2

I seem to remember watching a serie a game on channel 4 when a player got sent off for a foul committed before he got substituted. The team were still allowed to have 11 on the pitch because he had already been substituted, bizarrely. If that wasn't a red flag for how corrupt Italian football was I don't know what would be.0

I guess it's not much different than a manager being red carded and sent to the stands.
Because the substitution hadn't actually taken place, Cahill's team retained all 11 players on the pitch.
