One of the best comedy writers ever, along with Ray Galton essentially invented the British sitcom as we now know it. RIP Alan and many thanks for a legacy of pure quality.

Legendary writer! I love Steptoe and son , RIP Alan
  • Comedy writing legend. Recently watched the Steptoe box set and it was fantastic: great acting and fabulous writing, ahead of its time in many ways.

    RIP
  • up there with the bests comedy writers alongside his writing partner Ray Galton. steptoe is a classic and I love Hancocks half hour. I recently brought the box set. so witty and British, some of the best lines I've ever heard in comedy have come from that show. RIP.
