One of the difficulties that Orient face is the WHU behemoth on their doorstep. When WHU demanded exclusive use of the stadium, Orient were completely stuffed. Hearne got out at the point. The WHU deal causes Orient great problems. It is going to be tough for the supporters. Wish them all the best.3

The league have been assured that Orient will settle their debts with the taxman. They will also be able to complete their remaining fixtures which is good news.

I'd say the ECB & ICC are pretty much up there with them in that, driven by greed and money, they're quickly killing off county & test match cricket. FIFA too (look no further than Blatter & Havelange), and the IOC. Basically where there's money there's corruption, procrastintion and the 'sport' takes second place.MrLargo said:

I'd disagree with your comment that the ECB and ICC are 'quickly killing off county & test match cricket' - Test match cricket in this country at least is booming - with most Tests sold out months before they are played, and Lords attracts 100k+ crowds (over the period of a Test) EVERY year- i wouldnt call that being killed off !Mark_West49 said:

A lot of it is to do with evolution, in the same way that fewer people are watching tv nowadays and are spending more time on their computers, there is a lot more people around the world who have become interested in cricket because of T20 who might not be attracted to Test match cricket.
The ECB and ICC would be irresponsible in their duty to ignore the huge emergence of T20 globally , and , in my view, are trying to find the best balance between formats whilst also trying to optimise the financial elements in order that cricket as a sport can push forward . Who, in their right mind wouldnt want their sport/team to progress and move forward financially too ? - then again, this is a Charlton Forum, and i wont talk about The Peninsular.3 -

Remember years ago (early sixties) they had one season
in the old Division One. Decent players then like Dave Dunmore,
Malcolm Lucus, Cyril Lea and many others that I can't remember.

Just caught up with this. Stunned really that the administrators of the pro-game, in a country that is awash with £billions, has asked supporters to fund a few blokes with a stetcher on a match day. Where the hell is our game heading when this is even contemplated as a serious option!6

Tests in this country may sell out against Australia and certain other sides, but that is far from the case against the likes of Bangladesh, the WI and Sri Lanka. And it is of little use selling out a Test match if it only lasts three days: most current test players don't know how to play Test cricket.
Why will players bother to play county cricket when they can make big bucks in the IPL, Australia and, in 3 years' time, here?
The ECB did the sport a great diservice taking the game off of terestrial TV - fewer youngsters are taking up the game. And, despite lots of interest generated in their respective countries by the likes of Ireland, the UE and Afghanistan, the ICC is has virtually killed off any chance that those or other minor nations can take part in future World Cups (despite increasing the number of games at the next ICC World Cup - and remember the debacle of the WI's World Cup: about 60 matches played to eliminate just a couple of teams).
The idea of a 2 tier Test Championhip is equally absurd. Tht would resign the 5th ranked team (which could easily be England) to the 2nd division, and years of playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. That won't fill any stadia.
Personally I've found England's most interesting series in the last three years have been in India, that magical 2 test series against NZ, the Pakistan tests in the UAE, and South Africa. The continual succession of Ashes matches just bores me: being a top international cricketer involves playing on all pitches and in all conditions, yet due to our obsession with T20, OdI and the Ashes, we've been found wanting in India and Pakistan and, indeed, at home.
Yet more T20 will only excerbate the problem. It's like football and 5-a-side: two totally different games.

112 years down the Swanee thanks to an inappropriate crackpot owner.
Francesco Becchetti has ruined this club in 30 months flat. The football authorities are unable or unwilling to act against an owner so palpably unfit to run a club.
Five managers this season, loaded with debt, and now almost impossible to sell. What a mess - and far, far too close to home.
